    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed it for so many reasons My colleagues were very supportive, nice, welcoming I had work that was real responsibility I was 'comfortably' in an uncomfortable place that challenged me without over exerting me I contributed to work that my department would use after I left which was very important to me

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Very much - My colleagues welcomed me every morning, greeted me with a smile and offers to get me my morning tea and/or coffee They always supported me in furthering my research by answering my questions and connecting me to the relevant people They always followed up with me if I asked for help

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager was great, we had our weekly 121's and also talked throughout the week anyway whether she worked from home or was in the office. She gave me a lot of guidance and we always referred to the success triangle to make sure I was clear/capable/motivated. She was also always a friendly face I felt safe and comfortable with.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Just the right amount. I never felt like too much was going on. Between my intern project, my placement objectives, meetings I set up to get to know the business, meetings my manager set up for me to help m e with my work during my time here, and learning opportunities I undertook like e-learning or workshops, I was perfectly busy every day.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • The perfect amount yet again. I felt that every piece of work I submitted contributed to something 'real' in my department. Even if my recommendations weren't going to be implemented, they either used them as discussion points or utilised my research to facilitate their other conversations which was great for me

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • All the skills I learned are definitely invaluable for my whole life. I learned things like time management, prioritisation, and day to day things that will help me work, while also learning more theory on things like business consultancy and Agile. I also learned very valuable workplace soft skills like networking.

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere is great, I was definitely one of the luckiest interns. My team is very friendly, every morning they smile and greet each other, they'll follow up with you if you are anxious or ask you how your weekend was, they'll offer coffee. It's just a very welcoming atmosphere.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was definitely very well organised but at times it felt like we had too much going on. Things like TEAM Jump and conundrums edge felt like they were just after thoughts that were thrown into the internship as a 'just because' kind of thing. I didn't see much value to them compared to other things we did and they just ended up being a bit of a pain.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Definitely invested a lot I met with a lot of managers and high end people like in the exco or learning partners I also attended a lot of learning offerings like workshops, after work sessions to learn BSL, and was given the chance to read a lot of books using skillport and do e learning.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Will hopefully be getting straight into a graduate scheme if I am successful in the assessment of my objectives. It's definitely a seamless journey going from internship to graduate scheme which is great because it fast tracks you and you don't have to worry about doing applications again and it encourages you to stay

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • interns were very focused on just going out clubbing once a week I feel like there wasn't a great social scene or platform for us to interact but that is in no way a fault of the company and it reflects more on the interns that were there. there wasn't a lot with fellow colelagues either which is understandable as many have families etc. meaning they're busy but also can't relate to interns as much and vice versa.

  • very expensive

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I'm not a very nightlife kind of person I prefer the movies or a dinner or something anyway so it wasn't much of an issue for me. there's definitely lots of bars and things around, especially over summer with the fringe lots of shows and things to do to, but I didn't necessarily engage in the kind of nightlife a conventional intern would

  • Not too many but just bcos I was an intern
