    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • My internship at Smith & Williamson was extremely enjoyable. I was given multiple opportunities to extend my knowledge, was progressively given more responsibility and gained an understanding of the audit role, all in a challenging yet friendly and sociable environment.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My colleagues at Smith & Williamson for the 6 week internship were hugely welcoming and it certainly appeared they valued every contribution I made - however big or small it was.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My supervisor was welcoming, attentive and really friendly. He was in contact with me most days for the first few weeks, checking up to see if I had any issues and seeing if everything was going smoothly whilst at client site. He made sure I was signed up to the social events at work, introduced me to other colleagues at work and made me feel part of the team I worked with.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Due to the nature of audit, certain days I was very busy particularly when at client site. However, some days were quieter when in the office but that is expected seeing as the internship was done over quiet season and as an intern there may not always be work you're capable of. However, for the most part I was busy at client site with the audit team.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • As the internship developed the I was given increased responsibility. The audit senior gave me tests and tasks to conduct that were more challenging and technical towards the end of the internship, making the experience fulfilling to feel as though my ability and knowledge had progressed throughout the 6 weeks.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills and knowledge I have developed will most certainly help towards my degree. It was great to be able to go into the internship with prior knowledge of audit through a module at university. I hope to use the extended information I have learnt to further progress at university and for the future.
