    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?

    • I thoroughly enjoyed my 6 weeks at Smith & Williamson. Everyone in the office was very welcoming and I was busy for the majority of the time, sticking to a structured timetable for each client job.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?

    • I felt very valued by the people I worked with and it was easy to get on and meet others also.

    • I was assigned a buddy and a manager who were very supportive and happy to help.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?

    • I was busy on client site for the majority of the 6 weeks which enabled me to learn a variety of skills. There were occasions where the work was not as constant but this is only natural considering our lack of experience prohibited our ability to carry out certain audit tasks.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?

    • I was given a lot more responsibility than expected, speaking to FC's and FD's a number of times when visiting clients and assisting my senior managers.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?

    • I don't study Accounting at university but the internship has taught me greater professionalism and allowed me to be more confident in speaking to clients on a regular basis. This is undoubtedly a skill which will be useful in the future.

    • Good atmosphere, partners and students often socialise together in the office and outside.
