    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my vacation scheme at Taylor Wessing. I gained an in depth insight into the working culture of the firm, and the type of work involved for a trainee. I found all the work given to me within my two seats extremely interesting and that everyone was very friendly and approachable. I really enjoyed the two weeks with the firm.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I felt extremely valued during my time at Taylor Wessing. The firm clearly places trust and responsibility on its vac-schemers during our time in our respective seats. Alongside my assigned trainee buddy and supervisor, individuals offered support and guidance during my time there. The regular feedback and appraisals reinforced this. Taylor Wessing ensures that all its employees feel valued during their time there.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • I received much guidance and support during the vacation scheme. My supervisors were there to offer any guidance where necessary and to provide work that would give a real insight and challenge. Not only this, but various individuals would offer to provide any necessary support or guidance if needed. Everyone was clearly available if any questions needed to be answered.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills I developed, from research tasks, observing client calls and a court hearing, to drafting legal documents, are invaluable in assisting with the future work environment. Similarly, these skills, including attention to detail and learning new areas of the law, are great for assisting in my degree study and beyond. The interpersonal skills of building relationships with my peers and individuals within Taylor Wessing are important for any aspect of future study.

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The vacation scheme was very well structured by enabling me to have a full insight into the two seats for each week and being able to have time to work on numerous tasks respectively. I was also able to attend 'focus talks' on the relevant areas of legal expertise that the firm offers. The various socials were also very well structured into the two weeks.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The atmosphere during the vacation scheme was very friendly and inclusive. There were various opportunities to build relationships with my peers on the scheme and with various individuals during my time in the two seats. The socials, be it with my peers and trainees, or with the department I was sitting in, gave a chance to talk to individuals on a more informal basis. Although everyone is very occupied with work, this doesn't prevent you being able to ease into the atmosphere of the firm.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • From the very beginning of the scheme, it is clear that Taylor Wessing invests into each of its vac-schemers as potential trainees in the future. It was very apparent that the recruitment team had put significant time into structuring the scheme to enable us to develop our skills and receive personal training throughout our time there. The vacation scheme enabled us to receive personal development and learning opportunities.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • The vacation scheme offered a great insight into the type of role and work that a trainee has within Taylor Wessing, particularly for each seat. Also, we had the chance to talk to other trainees who didn't sit in the practice areas we had the opportunity to work within, to have an insight into their role in the firm. This all offers a feel for what it would be like to have a full time role within Taylor Wessing.

  • It was very easy to understand the culture that Taylor Wessing offers. The working culture, despite everyone being very busy and understandably so, was extremely friendly and inclusive to everyone. The firm was very transparent with their culture which was reflected from the initial recruitment process. The vacation scheme offered a full insight into the firm's culture.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • The content of the day, from working in your relevant seat for the week and attending focus sessions on each practice area, was extremely valuable for a future career. The scheme offered a holistic view of the firm of how different areas work alongside each other, and future developments that the firm will have to face.

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • £375 per week


  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • There were plenty of opportunities available during the vacation scheme at Taylor Wessing to network and meet other employees at the firm from all levels, including partners. These were available during specific socials with trainees and vac-schemers, to firm-wide events, and even socials within your specific seat. Since you are able to sit in two seats during the two weeks, this offers more opportunity to meet more people than it would if we had been given one seat.

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • The networking and social event opportunities were very well structured, from the 'Flight Club' social which I thoroughly enjoyed, to a dinner social there were various opportunities to network and socialise with many individuals. The events provided an opportunity to talk to others on a more informal basis and gain a real insight into their experiences.

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • Yes, from the focus sessions where employees talk about the various social opportunities they are able to attend within their relevant practice areas, to speaking to people individually about the type of activities that they have been involved in outside of their work, you are able to find out about other activities that employees can be involved in at Taylor Wessing.

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • I would definitely recommend the vacation scheme at Taylor Wessing to a friend. The scheme provides an invaluable opportunity to gain hands-on experience at the firm and really experience the culture of Taylor Wessing. Not only this, but the scheme provides the chance to nurture legal and interpersonal skills and to gain greater personal development.
