About You
Although it was good to gain an insight into the company, at times the insight did not feel like it had been very well organised. Many of the people within the firm did not know what a vacation student was. There was not a structured programme and more networking events would have been beneficial.
Although I always felt valued by the teams that I was working with, I sometimes felt a bit forgotten by the firm as a whole. I was always thanked for my work and people took time out to discuss their own experiences. An formal event on the last day would have been beneficial.
Although I received support from the teams that I was working with, I did not receive much guidance from the firm at all. There was no formal training provided and this would have been very beneficial. More networking events would have also been good to allow us to get to know the firm better.
The skills that I developed are not directly transferrable to my degree but I have learn both practical and social skills that will help me in my future career. The information that I have received about the company and audit as a whole will definitely shaped my future career path.
The Company
The vacation programme did not have a formal structure. After the first day, we were left to our own devices. Sometimes this proved to be quite difficult when you did not know anyone in your department. It would have been good if the vacation programme had had a more formal structure that provided us with some basic training.
The teams that I worked with were very welcoming and we always enjoyed lunch together whilst we were at client sites. However, there were not much socialising between all the interns because we were split up between the various departments and different client sites. It would have been good if there had been more opportunity to get to know the other interns.
I was doing the same sorts of tasks that would have been assigned to a graduate. In this sense, I have gained a reasonably good insight as to what the role would entail as a whole. I was also expected to go out to client sites and interact with the clients.

Everything Else
I was paid an adequate salary and was reimbursed for my expenses. These include travel to and from client sites which did not coincide with my usual commute. When I was in the office I received a £3.50 daily lunch allowance to use in the canteen and when I was at a client site I received £5.00 which I could claim back.
Whilst I was able to meet and socialise with the employees who I was directly working with, there were no formal opportunities to network. It would have been good if the company had put on formal events which would have enabled more opportunity for networking and to meet employees from other departments.
There were drinks provided for the interns on the first evening which gave us an opportunity to get to know each other. However, it was have been beneficial if there had been employees there too. There was also a boat party provided for the interns in the final week which was a nice occasion. However, it would have been good if there had also been a social event earlier on in the process which would have allowed the interns an opportunity to get to know each other.
I would not rush to recommend this insight to a friend because I do not think that it was very well organised. Many teams did not know that I was due to be joining them until the day before. I think that there are better opportunities out there and would encourage people to consider other options.
