    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The level of support was incredible, and I learned a lot by talking to a bunch of people. At the end of the day, Savills is a leading firm in the industry, likely the best - very entrepreneurial, very open, with very talented people. I only wish they entrusted us with a higher level of responsibility and higher than minimum wage pay

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I am going to reserve this comment to just my team - but I think they tried their best to make me feel valued, with a few 'good job's here and there, although I think they didn't really value me at all. In their defense, it can be difficult to trust and value someone after 4 weeks of working with them, but the fact that the director was absent for 3/4 the time knowing an intern had joined and that an off-work team lunch or meeting never happened until I, the intern, suggested it - says a lot about how personally detached they were from the 'team'

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Definitely one of the strong points of the internship. I was given high standards but equally strong support - they answered all my questions and more, taking the time to carefully explain everything in a structured but casual way.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • As busy as the industry demands, especially given it's summertime. At the same time, there were many responsibilities that I believe could have transferred from the directors to the junior associates, and then to the interns.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • My mentor did many checks and gave many comments which I thought was totally unnecessary, and she insisted that she read every single email I send. Furthermore, most of the work in capital markets was done by the directors who refused to delegate any work. In short I was given a lot of work, but not good work, and there was little trust involved - especially given how much pride Savills puts in how there's such a flat structure.

    2/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • To an extent, although I didn't get to learn many skills I had hoped to learn due to the responsibility issues

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Fun in the sense that people took time off to go to the pub and to travel. I don't think there are many meaningful relationships in the office, however, although I like how there is pressure to perform but no negative 'pressure' not to fail.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Very well done. Savills HR might just be the strongest department in Savills, and definitely the best HR in the property industry. Only comment I have is the overly technical second City Tour and the departmental overviews, some of which were clearly done by people who had no interest in presentation.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I don't think they could've done a better job but it is impossible for me to be honest and say they invested in me because they will not sponsor my visa to work for them anyway. See also the responsibility comments (not even considering how I worked on 4 international projects and went on 0 trips) Nevertheless, they were very helpful and I was very grateful for this opportunity. Hopefully I will get to work with Savills again.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 1/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • My prospects are zero, but in general people's prospects are very good. I'd hate to bring down an average with an unfair review, but Savills really is systematically barring me from any future with them despite my contribution to their work

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • This is really down to the student group. I was really happy with the fellow summer scheme students (funny, talented), although I just didn't think it was my sort of group. It also wasn't very outgoing, and it was mostly white private school British folk - not very diverse

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Cost of living in London is generally terrible, but there were very many (and very affordable) leisure options in the work area

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Many pubs - not a fan of pubs, but Savills is deserving of a good mark in this respect

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Seems like there were, but my team weren't the most social team both internally and externally.
