    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The team I joined was very welcoming and introduced me to the business area. My manager and HR invested a lot of time in personal development and learning and set clear internship objectives and tasks from the first week onwards. This helped in understanding my role and responsibilities and how to fulfil them.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My manager and team quickly gave me responsibility for own projects and tasks and supported me when needed. They used the output of that work and recognized the value of these outputs during meetings. I have been included in all important team activities and meeting and could voice my thoughts.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I have been given guidance and help when needed throughout the internship. I could speak to anyone in the wider area. My manager held regular meetings to ensure everything was alright, talk about current tasks, personal development and any other activities. Further I have received support from other team members when collaborating with them for projects.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was busy with several tasks and internship projects as well as further day to day work. Additionally there were different challenges and events running for interns such as the CSR challenge that required some time and organisation. Overall I felt busy and involved in the work and learned a lot but I never felt over worked or worked very long hours.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I have been given responsibility for my own projects and could execute them with help from my manager or other team members when needed. I felt a valued part of the team and able to make my own decision within the scope of my project. My manager was available for questions.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Working ion the bank provided me with a great insight into day to day work. I could enhance several skills needed to succeed in a corporate environment. I enjoyed taking part in different learning and development opportunities organised within my team as well as bank wide events or events for interns and grads.

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I enjoyed the atmosphere overall. Colleagues were very friendly and always willing to help. Teams were hard working and keen to provide the best service possible to internal and external customers. There were allocated times within teams to catch up a focus on learning and development of individual team members.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The Early Careers Team invited all intern to a portal with information before the internship and organised a 2 day induction at the beginning of the internship as well as an event on the last internship day. Throughout the internship weekly learning was scheduled. I felt it was overall well organised.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I felt that the company invested a lot of time in Learning and Development during weekly calls, online webinars, bank wide learning events etc. Further training and development happened within the individual teams. There was the opportunity to actively engage with people across the bank and organise further shadowing/ lunches.

  • There id the opportunity to secure a grad position after successfully completing the internship.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The cohort of interns that joined was very friendly. I build strong connections with fellow interns based at the same location as me. A few social events have been organised centrally as well as some privately organised socials. Overall the cohort was very open and it was possible to get to know more interns at each social.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were different committees and opportunities to get involved in. Each employee can join internal networks and take part in volunteering opportunities and charity events. Further there are different sport events organised after work. My teams also organised lunches or activities after work for certain occasions. As part of the internship every intern got involved in a charity challenge.
