    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my time at KPMG. There was a great mix of training and on-site client experience which facilitated growing in both understanding and application of what was introduced through training. KPMG employees were hugely welcoming, and made it very easy for me to work alongside them. Very pleased indeed!

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • The general atmosphere in the office was welcoming and easy to settle into. Other employees were friendly and interested in who I was. My managers and those giving me work were very encouraging, and great at giving constructive feedback. The person I had assigned as my 'buddy' did a terrific job of helping to coach and mentor me.

    5/5

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • I received excellent guidance and support. Others in the office or in the teams on-site made it very easy for me to feel as though I could approach them with any questions and queries. I was also able to chat to them about the company and their experience of working there.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The understanding of business is very valuable for my future trajectory. Working in audit gives an overview of business practices. I doubt that what I did there will help in the content of my degree, but the skills around communication, and general experience of working an office job are valuable indeed.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • Very well structured. We had a training day in London, followed by time in the regional office where I was based. I had time in the office to settle in and to complete the mandatory training, and then was booked to clients from then on. There was flexibility which was great.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • Very enjoyable. The company ethos is one of great dedication and hard work, and yet the employees aren't overly serious. This made it easy to join, and it didn't take long for me to feel as though I was one of them as it were!

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There was a Values Day in London, with some great input from the Recruitment team and a couple of brief talks from Partners. Then there have been mandatory training modules, as well as a whole host of others that are available and can be completed between client work.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • It was very clear since I was working a similar schedule to what a first year graduate would have done. I was also given a lot of information by my colleagues about what they were doing whilst on the grad scheme, or what they did when they were on it before finishing.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • Having a day in London was a huge bonus as it enabled us to see the central offices. I then experienced one of the regional offices for a few days along with many days onsite with clients. The office was a mix of people each day because many are out at different points carrying out audits.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • Such a fantastic insight into auditing, and accountancy more generally. It was also very beneficial experiencing a 9-5 job, both in the office and also with travel to client sites. Invaluable experience and has helped me a lot in thinking through my next step.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • Both! They were fantastic about this - a generous company indeed.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • I got to go to a regional office meeting, where the regional chair was present. This was good fun, and I got to chat to many other colleagues that I hadn't met up until that point. The training day in London was great too, although it's unlikely that those connections with other interns will be valuable in the near future, since none of the others were going to the office where I was going.

    3/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • Great - got to go to the office meeting, and was also invited to an intern gathering in my region, though I turned this down because it was a couple of hours away. There was a social planned for the whole office but this was subsequently postponed.

    4/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • Not really, no

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • I absolutely would - fantastic experience and what a gift to be able to do it!
