About You
Good insight into what they do but due to the complexity of the work you can be left doing the same tasks over and over again. They do however make sure that you have enough to be getting on with and so that you never have any time sat bored.
Felt valued by once again due to the complexity of the work you can only carry out the simplest of task. But saying that you do get to go to clients and they do generally value your opinion. The managers make sure you feel valued as do the more junior staff
Everyone was helpful and wanted you to understand what they were talking about. The junior members of the teams would make sure you understood the work you were doing and the managers would make sure that you could understand why you were doing it and what they were talking about with the clients.
Studying an accounting degree with an audit module this experience will stand me in good stead for the year ahead. Going into my 3rd year at the university of Sheffield and so this summer will stand me in good stead in completing my studies and for hopefully obtaining a graduate job at the end of it.
The Company
Plenty of opportunities provided. Start of the placement was spent with audit teams out at clients working on the actuall audit and making sure that the work was done. 2nd half was spent more with the senior members of the team shadowing them on client meetings giving you an insight as to what they do
Everyone was friendly and supportive even during stressful periods. Junior members of teams made sure that your were included in everything that they did and the management made sure that you understood everything that was going on no matter how busy they were at the time and or stressed with the audit
They provided a bag and a laptop for the entire period and training was provided on the first 2 days and then access to the learning portal was also provided. The firm invested time and money into training and developing me over the period with meetings and training days provided.
As during the first 2 weeks I was working along side teams doing actuall audits I feel like this gave a true insight as to what I would do day to day if I was to join the company on a full time basis. The 2nd half shadowing managers gave an insight as to the senior roles at the firm.
As I was stationed with full time employees of the firm I was given an understanding as to what the culture was like at the firm with a lot of nice people who were always ready to help. There was a work hard mentality at the firm but also everyone was very approachable
As I was a part of an audit team and carrying out work on real audits it gave a real sense of what a career in audit would entail and would make sure that this is a career path that I would like to follow. The opportunity to shadow managers also gave an appreciation of where you can get to if you work hard at the firm.
Everything Else
I was paid for my time as if I was a full time intern working for the firm and was subject to the same expenses policy that the rest of the employees are. This was a very good thing as the expense of traveling to clients was substantial and as such the reimbursement of expenses was welcome.
Networking events were provided both at the start and at the end of the placement
Good with the first just being at the office and the second being a night out at a breakout event for just the interns which was a nice way for us to socialise and share our experiences with each other. The drinks in London were also a nice way for us to break the ice with each other
Yes through email
yes I would
