    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I enjoyed the insight week immensely. The first week was very interesting and varied but felt slightly repetitive and contrived at points. The second and third weeks of the internship were very enjoyable. I am very glad we had the opportunity to work in the same department for the whole two weeks.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I certainly felt valued during my time at the firm. This is because my help was appreciated by the team and with time, I was given more complex work, which I appreciated. The first week was less so as the assessments felt very contrived and created an environment which was somewhat artificial.

    5/5

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • The guidance and support during the insight was really commendable. All the members in my department always took the time to properly explain the task to me despite being incredibly busy. I always felt like I could go and ask my buddy for help with whatever I needed. Even my supervisor was incredibly approachable.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills I developed will help me any future jobs. This is because this experience taught me how to balance my time and clashing commitments well, which is an important skill to take forward. Additionally, some of the tasks I was given were very technical and legal in their nature, which will also help me in my degree.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • On the whole, the insight was very well structured. Having two weeks in the same department was very beneficial. However, the first week could have been condensed further to allow for even more time working in the department. I found that the time allocated to reflecting on sessions during the Academy was excessive.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The general atmosphere during the insight was very positive on the whole. Everyone enjoyed the socials greatly and really appreciated being taken out for lunch with their team.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The firm clearly invested a lot in the Academy and this was most definitely appreciated. The panel discussions were incredibly helpful and allowed us to speak to industry leaders that we would never otherwise have met. The efforts to do the MBTI test were also commendable. This theme also carried through into the internship week.

    5/5

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • The two week experience of sitting in the department was incredibly helpful because this allowed us to experience the firm as a regular employee would. This was a really good opportunity. Additionally, the opportunities to get involved with other things that the firm did were also helpful to get an insight into how it would be to actually work at the firm.

    4/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • The insight helped me understand the company culture because it involved meeting a whole variety of people from across different ranks in the firm. This meant that I was able to see on thr ground how people interacted and operated with one another.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • Doing the actual work that a commercial solicitor would do was very helpful in forming future decisions. This was because the decision was no longer being made based on a conception of what the work was like but how it really is.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • It was encouraged that you reached out to trainees in other parts of the firm to talk about the work they do. My buddy organised for me too meet people from a different department, which I found very helpful.

    4/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • During the first week, the social event opportunities were always combined with a task, which made it far less enjoyable. However, during the internship, the socials were truly that and were very enjoyable.

    4/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • We got to know about the pro bono opportunities as well as sporting opportunities within the firm.

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
