    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my 12 month placement, deciding to continue working for an additional 2 months after It was meant to finish. I was given lots of responsibility and experience on client sites early on which was rewording as I felt I got to grips with my work more quickly. The job was really interesting and getting to travel around the country for different jobs gave me a really good feel for what the job entailed.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Everyone I worked with at GT was really friendly and supportive, they were all happy to help with any queries or questions I had about the work I was doing. Due to the nature of audit work you work with lots of different people for shorter periods of time, this can make it difficult to get to know people as well however, I think the company makes the best effort possible to help you settle in and meet people and as the year goes on there are many chances to network.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Through out the year we were given lots of training opportunities, I went on various courses to learn about more how GT audit, I was impressed that they let the placement students attend these as they are mostly for graduates and school leavers. My people manager was very supportive and I felt as though I could go to her with any queries or questions.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • This depends mostly on the time of year. Closer to the audit deadlines there's more work and people tend to be more busy/ work longer hours, for me this was just after Christmas. Otherwise the work level was pretty constant and only went more chilled if we were waiting on things from the client to be able to finish the work.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given lots of responsibility from day one, which I was quite surprised at. There was no ease you in period I was out at the clients site from the start which was probably best to learn as much as possible. You are given your own work which you have to take ownership of and are expected to complete, having you own section of the audit helps to Improve your knowledge and increase your confidence.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • My placement enabled me to develop my confidence in my own abilities, my professionalism and knowledge. I feel more comfortable using excel and various software's that will help me in my career after uni and I have improved my problem solving and critical thinking skills that will help me with my studies in university.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • My office was very friendly, as it was quite small everyone knew everyone which was nice. We also had hot desks so people switched up where they sat each day making it easier to get to know more people. Everyone was approachable even managers and partners so asking them a question was never a big thing.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • My placement was well organised, you were informed of any placement specific events well in advance to make it easy to fit them into your diary. It was easy to see what client you were booked to and someone always got in touch to let you know where you needed to be and what you were going to be doing.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The company has very good future employment prospects, they are very open at the start that they are willing to give you a graduate job once you have completed university and would like to carry on with your role. This is really motivating to do your best while on placement as if you really enjoy what you have been doing you'll want to come back.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • My office had a very good social aspect, as there was lots of birthday/ leaving drinks organise which especially at the start helped you to get to know everyone. Also I attending two accounting society balls that were all paid for by GT which I thought was very nice considering I was only a placement student.
