    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?

    • I greatly enjoyed the internship, and I found it a challenging yet rewarding experience.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?

    • The team I was in provided me with a lot of support during my time there. This was especially useful given my lack of experience within the sector. It also ensured that the support was more accessible than it perhaps would have been through other mechanisms.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?

    • My line manger was constantly on hand to provide guidance and support in the work that I was doing. In addition there were multiple credit analysts and assistants who were able to provide guidance if he was unavailable.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?

    • Whilst I feel that I was able to be productive during my time in the placement, I don't believe that I was operating at my full capacity, in part due to limited knowledge on how to fully operate the systems.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?

    • I was given a good degree of responsibility in the work I was doing but I had the security in knowing that my work would be reviewed so that the client was receiving excellent service.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?

    • Despite the fact that I study history so the programme provided few technical skills that were relevant, the internship highlighted the importance of learning as well as the strength of working in a team, both of which will be useful to my studies.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?

    • The office was a great place to work. Aesthetically it was an enjoyable place to be, and the team had a good balance between being fun people to work with as well as being conducive to productive work.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?

    • Once in the placement I was assimilate into the team quickly, however, I feel that firms in the RBS group suffers due to the centralisation of the organisation for the internships. They were also inflexible when it came to late entrants due to university exams.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?

    • The knowledge and training that I was given clearly showed that the company wanted to invest in me, and by doing this it made it a more enjoyable environment in which to work.

    • I will definitely be looking to pursue a career with the company as it provides a good working environment and healthy career prospects.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?

    • The graduates ensured that we felt welcome and arranged several informal social events for us. Additionally my team were a social group and held several impromptu social meetings during my time with them.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?

    • The cost of living in London was high which did make me hyperconscious of the amount I was spending on a day to day basis. This did curtain the amount of socialising I was able to do, however, I was able to compensate for this with several low cost alternatives.

    • The nightlife was good, although as mentioned before it was constrained by the expense of London.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?

    • The company had several sports team which I got involved with, which allowed me to bond with members of my team closer.
