    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my week with Walker Morris. It provided a detailed day-to-day insight into the commercial department and the firm's culture. I was able to learn a lot in a week due to the varied opportunities in the schedule. I came away from the week with the confirmation that Walker Morris was the firm I wanted to work for.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I felt extremely valued during the week at Walker Morris. Everyone I came into contact with seemed more than happy to offer advice and get to know me. All the work I completed assisted current client work and therefore I was made to feel like I made a real contribution.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • I was assigned a trainee buddy and supervisor (a senior associate) who were always on hand to offer support and guidance when needed. The balance between being able to have a go at a task alone and recieve feedback was excellent. Additionally, everyone within my department took the time to chat to me and ensure I was ok.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Upon completing the vacation week I feel more prepared and knowledgeable of what to expect when I start my training contract. Additionally, exercises completed during the week such as the negotiation workshop, has given me an insight into the practical activities that I may face when I complete my LPC.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The vacation scheme was very well organised. On day one we were given a time table specifying a specific schedule. The assessment activities were spread out across the week and informal social activities took place in-between. Overall, it was structured in a way that provided a very busy but enjoyable week.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • I was paid £175 for the week.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • The busy schedule involved a range of networking opportunities. For instance, there was a lunch with trainees and also question & answer sessions. The main mid week social had employees from all levels so it was great to interact with people that had been with the firm a while. Additionally, everyone was so welcoming and willing to give up time for a chat even if you was not within that department.

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • The networking and social opportunities were very relaxed and informal. There were plenty of opportunities to interact with people from all levels and departments. A partner even attended the mid week social which involved beer pong and table tennis! Additionally, the trainees were excellent at arranging little socials to make us feel welcome. They held welcome and leaving drinks. I was also invited to attend the commercial departments client event which allowed me to network with current clients and gain an insight into how Walker Morris builds strong relationships with clients.

    5/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • Throughout the week I was exposed to the variety of activities employees can get involved in outside working hours. For instance, there are many sports teams and charitable events that suit all employees. The charitable activities vary, for instance there is an upcoming tough mudder and sky dive which anyone interested can get involved with. The overall impression I got was that Walker Morris is heavily invested in creating connections outside of work.
