1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?

I thoroughly enjoyed the insight from start to finish. There was plenty of opportunity to get involved and everybody in the office was welcoming and more than happy to help and answer questions. Overall, the placement was an invaluable insight into the firm and I learnt a lot from my week!

2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?

I felt valued during my time with the firm as everybody seemed enthusiastic to get to know me and happy that I was in the office undertaking my placement. My time was always appreciated and my work was always provided with positive feedback and gratitude. I never felt as though I wasn't valued and everybody went out of their way to ensure my experience was positive.

3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?

I was constantly supported by numerous people during my insight and from the first day was made aware of who and how I could ask for help if I needed it. Graduate recruitment were constantly in touch to ensure everything was going well and my host provided invaluable support as and when I needed it.

4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?

The skills I developed were invaluable and allowed me to understand my own strengths and weaknesses. It also allowed me to determine how I would improve moving forward and continue to develop these skills outside my placement. Overall the placement provided me with a real insight into what life as a trainee involves which will be helpful in the future.

5. How well structured was the insight?

The insight was well structured and I was provided all the information about how the week was set out. I was aware of all the opportunities available to me and was never unsure about anything. There was a lot going on during the week with work set by my team and tasks by graduate recruitment alongside this but this helped me with my time management skills and meant that I always had something to do.

6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?

The office atmosphere was pleasant and positive and overall a great place to be. It meant that I felt comfortable and included from day one and was able to learn from my surroundings. I was able to interact with a variety of people in different roles and felt as though I was part of the firm.

7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?

I felt that there was a great commitment to ensuring that I got the most out of my placement and a lot of time went into ensuring I was enjoying my time with the firm. A lot of time was invested in providing feedback and answering my questions and I felt as though the firm had a genuine interest in helping me to understand concepts and develop my skills.

8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?

The placement provided me with a great insight into what working at Shoosmiths would be like in the future. I was able to get involved with everything as though I was a member of the firm and got a real idea about what my future would look like if I was to work for the firm.

9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?

The insight was a great way to consolidate that the culture of the firm on paper is exactly the same as in the office. Everybody was proud to discuss the culture of the firm and happy to explain the significance of this and why the firms culture was so important to them and to the firm as a whole.

10. How valuable was the content of the day in helping you to decide on your future career path?

The placement was incredibly valuable in helping to confirm my aspirations to become a solicitor. I was provided with the opportunity to ask all of my questions and see first-hand what following this career path involves. I finished my placement with a greater excitement to continue following the path and was able to discount any previous hesitations that I had.

12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?

There was plenty of opportunities to get involved and network with other employees of the firm. I was invited to take part in everything and encouraged to network as much as possible. I was a little nervous to instigate meeting other employees but mostly people were more than happy to approach me and this made it much easier to get to know people.

14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?

I was invited along to numerous activities outside of work and and felt comfortable enough to join in. These were a great way to learn more about the people working at the firm and gain an insight how people continue to interact with their colleagues outside of the office. It was also a good opportunity to try new things and see a true picture of what life working at the firm is like.

I would recommend this insight as it was an invaluable experience and has helped me to develop my enthusiasm for the firm, my desired career path, and provided me with a greater confidence in myself. It was a great opportunity to interact with new people and experience life at Shoosmiths.
