    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I had an amazing year and would do it again if I had the chance. I rated no higher than 7 because the role that I was placed in isn't exactly what I want to do in the future but none the less I met some amazing people and learnt a load of skills that will be transferable to any role.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • The team were amazing to me! They made me feel very welcome which is one of the reasons I had such a great year. I actually forgot that I was a placement student at times - I was given full responsibility and my opinions were always listened too in a serious way.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The team were happy to help and invest in my development. They very much had the attitude that it was in no ones interest for the year to be a failure so they were happy to put the time aside for me to develop - of course the more you know the more of a benefit you are to them.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • There were slow days when perhaps I was a little bored - this was mainly due to the team that I was in being a 'support' team so there were never any serious deadlines so we could just cruise along at our own pace. There were no days when I had nothing to do however.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • For about a month I literally was supporting the whole team while they progressed on the teams vision work! This was great as I felt really valued. It also really accelerated the rate at which I was learning because I was in at the deep end. It was pretty good.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The actual role itself will be of very little use but the soft skills that I picked up will be transferable to all sorts of careers. These include technical skills and soft skills. I think what I learnt the most is dealing with people and team work which will be needed anywhere.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Pretty good - there were lots of other placement students here so we had a good laugh, in work and outside of it. The team didn't take things too seriously which made work more enjoyable, they were quite relaxed and encouraged agile working whilst having a keen focus on colleague welfare.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Lloyds take on placement students every year so they are very experienced at having them and know how to get the best out of them. The rating was no higher than 6 because it took a while to get started due to poor organisation (getting laptops set up etc) and because the grad scheme referral process took a long time and was very vague.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Lloyds helped me develop, and they would have supported me if I wanted to develop even more. Because I didn't go above and beyond to develop I didn't go on any extra courses (I felt that the day to day work combined with the support that I was given on this was sufficient to help me).

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Company Parties/Events

    Working from home

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Although I perhaps didn't 100% click with the role that I was in, if I was to find a role that I was to enjoy more within the bank I would leap at the opportunity because it genuinely is an enjoyable place to work due to the attitude towards work.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I met some great mates and we went out most weeks. It very much depends as to whether you click with the other students but if you are happy to put yourself out there there is loads to be getting on with and the bank helps people to meet people at the start (by putting on events etc).

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • London is expensive - expect to pay £5+ for a pint! I was lucky enough to be living at home so I saved money on rent (which would have been a lot if living in London) but it still cost over £4000 to commute for the year. I think the cost is worth it though.

    1/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • It's London, there's always things to do. The majority of the time we would go to bars (as opposed to clubs) but whatever you fancy there is plenty to keep you busy. Living at home outside of London was a bit of a pain when wanting to go out out is the only thing worth mentioning.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I didn't do much but yes there are. There were quizzes, rounders matches and 5 side football tournaments to name a few (all with people from the office). Everyone was welcome at these if you wanted to go. There is also monthly karaoke events which most people went to and were fun.
