    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • The vacation scheme was extremely enjoyable. The work was varied and interesting, and it really felt like I added value to the matters I was working on. The current trainee intake were welcoming, as was the firm as a whole.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I felt that from the off the work we were given was of real importance to the firm and its clients. It wasn't a case of being given work for the sake of it. The team went out of the way to help us settle in and make us feel like 'real' members of the team.

    5/5

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • Support was strong from the beginning. With time set aside for induction in all the tools we would require to complete our work well. The IT induction was especially supportive, as IT took time to see us at our desks to ensure everything was set up and we could work with it. Talent were on hand throughout the week, offering support as required.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills developed will prove invaluable during the remainder of my studies and as I look to secure a career in law. The information received, especially from the Focus On sessions helped to highlight areas of the firm in which I was not working directly.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The scheme was structured well with the chance to see sit in two different practice areas. It also gave the opportunity, through the Focus On sessions to see the wider firm and begin to build contacts across the firm. We had enough time to successfully plan and deliver our group project.

    5/5

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The atmosphere was fantastic. From the welcome lunch through to the farewell drinks, there was a good balance between work and also the chance to enjoy social events with the current team, especially the trainee intake. The trainees were keen to integrate vacation schemers in to their activities, which included lots of football during our time!

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The firm invested in our development by giving us the opportunity to take on important work. Feedback was prompt, and also productive. I left feeling my work was of a higher quality than when I arrived. Supervisors were sure to brief accurately to give the best opportunity of completeing work as expected, with feedback allowing further iterations of the work to increase in quality.

    5/5

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • I think the good quality work that was given, and the responsibility from day one, was a good insight in to what life as a trainee would be like at the firm. The Focus On sessions also included information not only about the practice area as a whole but also the sorts of tasks that a trainee would be given.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • It was clear from the vacation scheme that the firm's advertising of its culture on shorter programmes and open days is an accurate portrayal of the culture of the office. It is a very collegiate atmosphere with lots of work taking in a number of practice areas. It's committment to diversity and inclusion was evident throughout, and very reassuring.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • I was lucky enough to sit in both Patents and IP/Media so got a good view of the IP teams at TW. I feel that Talent took into consideration our choices for seats on the scheme, and most people seemed to get what they were hoping for. I now know for sure that a career as a solicitor lies ahead, and that a firm practicing heavily in the Life Sciences sector is somewhere I want to be.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • Very adequate. I feel that the pay was very good in relation to the level of work that we carried out, and also the level of committment that we had to show to the firm during our time in the office on the vacation scheme. I was very pleased with the pay.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • There were plenty of opportunities for networking and meeting other employees, both within the office, and also during the social events. These ranged from partners down to members of the business services team.

    5/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • Networking events were good with the chance to talk to people across the firm. The social events were very well received. They were scheduled at convenient times and the trainees took the time to make sure we all enjoyed ourselves.

    5/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • Yes. The Focus On sessions highlighted what each team gets up to outside of the office, and also within the office, in terms of team building, fundraising and general activities.

    5/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • Yes. I would definitely recommend this scheme to a friend. It offered an unrivalled view in to life in a full service law firm, with excellent access to partners, and an honest evaluation of the firm itself in respect to the offerings it can make for the candidate in their careers.
