    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I have enjoyed increasing my industry and financial knowledge, developing my skills and working in such a fast paced working environment in an industry that is so releveant to the now.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt instantly welcomed, valued and respected by my colleagues which often isn't the case as an intern. I have loved getting to know everyone and have had the opportunity to build a strong network full of talented individuals

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I have recieved a lot of support throughout my placement. My manager has always been on hand for any help or support I have required on a day to day basis, and I have also had the support from my head of year who I meet with every few weeks for any further guidence.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Month-end has always been my busiest time due to my involvement in the process. Generally i would be less busy between month ends which gave me the opportunity to conduct any deep dive analysis / work on updating files / deal with any management or ad-hoc requests

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I have been given a lot of responsibility throughout my placement. The main task of mine was completing all the month end calcuations which was a lot of pressure each month.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have significantly developed my excel skill, learning new formula and formatting techniques that I can easily transfer into future jobs. I have also learnt the best practice when networking, presenting, planning and keeping on top of things with time management.

  • The Hook office is lively, busy and very friendly.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I was very impressed by the overall placement process. I was well-informed, enjoyed the assessment centre, and felt supported throughout my year.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We were very much encouraged to find a mentor and complete PDP's to aid our personal development. As an intern, we also had compulsory training sessions throughout the year to help us develop specific skills.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The Graduate Scheme is very appealing following my year at Virgin. I have worked closely with the scheme leads / sponsors and I feel invested in as an individual which has motivated me to work hard in the hope to return.

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was a good group of interns who would meet not only at training days and for lunch, but also would attend work events together and do out of office activities.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost of living is more expensive than I had experienced at university because I was living closer to London, however it was doable and I was still able to part-take in social activities on the salary I was on.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The night life was fairly good. Reading was the closest place to go out but because it is so close to London there was easy access to and from the city for work and social events.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • We were encoruaged to get involved in activites outside of work including: charity days, socials, sporting activities, and health and welbeing events.
