About You
It was a very enjoyable 3 days, I got to see 3 different aspects of the department which was very good for a short period of time. I could tell that they thought about what they were going to show me and how to organise the insight for me. Very pleased!
I did feel "valued" in the way that I was treated nicely by everyone I met during my time. However, I obviously was only doing insight so I did not have tasks that I felt brought value to the company and in return made me feel 'valued'. Did not expect to though so still happy with my experience.
I recieved a lot of guidance as well as support during my three days there. Each day a new representative was taking charge of my learning, and it was in the form of shadowing. I got explained everything nicely and always knew what was happening/was going to happen during the day!
The Company
A lovely atmosphere! People were all very nice to me and curious to find out what I was doing, where I was going next and to share their own experiences working in the department which was a plus for me. I felt welcome at all stages during the three days and even had the chance to be at a coffee/cake event!
I did not get any personal training and development per say, but I also did not expect to get any. As mentioned, the placement was very short so I don't believe it would have fitted in this time frame. There could have been maybe some material to add extra development and training though!
Because I had the chance to shadow three different people in very different jobs, I was lucky to get a lot of insight for a short period of time. I got to see three sides of the department and three different careers within the same subject which was very interesting for me.
I did understand some of the company culture, such as the atmosphere and the friendliness of the staff towards everyone, but I wouldn't say everything. Then again, I believe it might be because I was only there for 3 days but I could not get a feel of the whole company culture unfortunately.
Because I got to shadow different people as well as meet a large variety of professionals in such a short period of time, I got a broad understanding of the industry quite quickly which is what I was hoping for. It did help to meet people in roles that I was myself considering for the future.
Everything Else
Yes there was networking and social event opportunities! I attended a cake and coffee event during the work day where every staff member was mingling and socializing, which allowed me to talk to many different people to get a feel of their career and position within the department. It was very enjoyable.
Unfortunately I did not find out about any activities outside of work or benefits package. It might be that there is nothing there but also might be that I wasn't told about it during my time since they did not see it relevant for me to find out at the time.
I would definitely recommend this insight to a friend as it's been a lovely time, well organised, I did get to undertake some tasks so I was never bored, the people were very welcoming to me, and it was extremely varied in the sense of what I got to explore for a short period of time.
