    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I had a lot of fun, learnt a lot and was given a lot of responsibility. At the same time everybody was very willing to help me so I always worked with confidence. I am now planning a career with PwC.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My colleagues were fantastic. They supported me greatly and were easy to talk to. I was fully aware that I was initially more of a burden to them than a help, but this did not seem to bother them. They are a group of people I would very much like to work with full time.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was allowed to get on with my own tasks but they were always around if I needed additional help. Considering my lack of knowledge of this industry initially they were very patient with me.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was very busy but I enjoyed that. I always had something to do and was learning all the time.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a surprising amount of responsibility, more than I had expected. At the same time however there were always people around to help if I needed it. I certainly felt challenged.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I learned many things, from everyday computer skills to more in depth accounting techniques. My degree is not specifically related to accountancy but the everyday skills, communication skills and work ethic will always be useful. I am also hoping to have a career in this field and therefore everything else I learned will also come in very handy.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • It was good. It was much more relaxed than I had anticipated but still very much had the atmosphere of a place where things got done. It was a nice mixture.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was excellent. PwC are a huge company and they run a lot of internships. Everything worked brilliantly despite the huge logistics involved with so many people in so many different offices. I was very impressed.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • They invested a lot. We had a full week of training within a six week internship in two different locations. They made sure we knew enough to start working.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Sports and Social Club

    National Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Very appealing and I was offered a job. So long as my final year of university goes well I will be starting with the firm full time next September.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • It was good but unfortunately in my group of interns many commuted from quite far away so we did not meet up so often. This would be very different if you were working with the office full time.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I was based in Edinburgh. It is not the cheapest city in the world but could also be a lot worse.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I am not really a huge night life kind of person but Edinburgh is a capital city and there is a lot going on.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There are a lot of non-work things to do in Edinburgh both within the firm and outside it. There is definitely something for everybody.
