The Role
I have had a fantastic year working at Siemens Magnet Technology. I worked in a fast paced, dynamic working environment, and quickly found I was given a great deal of responsibility.
Extremely valued. Once I learned my role, I was given lots of responsibility and required to meet requirements in the same way a full time employee would.
Personally, my manager was extremely busy and so only top level support was given. My day to day activities were overseen by colleagues from my team which meant I received in depth knowledge, and gained a great deal of experience.
over the year I have become more busy as I gave gained greater roles and responsibility. At the start of the year I was not busy however now, especially while covering others while they are on holiday I am extremely busy.
A great deal. I worked in the planning and materials team and so for certain factory areas, I was given complete responsibility. I was able to be creative in how I controlled my production areas, and learnt a lot from both my successes and failures.
The skills I learnt will greatly help me in uni life. From organizational skills to excel, all have improved massively while working on this placement year.
The Company
Very busy, but supportive. I worked in an open plan office so interdepartmental co-operation was very easy. There were of course times when teams were stressed, however for the most part, the atmosphere was supportive.
The onboarding process took some time, and there was quite a long period of time right at the time were we were unable to work due to not having PKI cards and email addresses. However through the year the IDP sessions have been great.
We were lucky to gain excel training, as well as the training we gained through the IDP programs.

Very. I have been offered a full time role on the graduate scheme and plan to take it.
The Culture
Yes very good. Graduate, interns, and apprentices all socialise together outside of work. The open plan office and sociable canteen help with this.
Oxford is an expensive area to live in, however the area is lovely and hence, you pay for it. Although it was expensive, I did not mind it for living in Oxford.
Oxford is more of a bar / pub scene. This suits some and not others. Personally I very much enjoyed the night life.
Some, these were mainly organized by members of the shop floor. Other than this, we organized our own events between interns and grads.
