    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my internship with Hays. It was the right balance of challenging and rewarding. I have performed to the best of my ability throughout the year and enjoyed each challenge I had to face. I highly would recommend Hays to all students thinking of completing an internship or placement.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Throughout the year I have never felt as though I have been treated as an 'internship' or of lower authority than any other employee. My team are like a family to me and they will remain friends for life. I couldn't of asked for better colleagues to work with for a year.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Whenever I have had any queries or concerns I have always been offered support by managers and directors of the business. The support has been constant throughout the year and I am grateful for the guidance that has been given to me. The support is second to none. So grateful.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Depending on job flow, my days have varied. I do believe I have had the perfect balance of busy days. Its all about time management and that is what this job has taught me. I have learnt to manage my time effectively and work out the best way to manage job flow and other responsibilities.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was shocked at the level of responsibility I was given throughout my placement. I have been doing the exact same role as other consultants and employees higher than myself. The level of autonomy I received is amazing. I wouldn't of had it any other way. I'm glad Hays trusted me enough to run my own desk.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have gained life skills during my placement that will carry me through life. My communication and telephone manner has improved dramatically. My confidence has grown dramatically and it is all done to my placement at Hays. Before my placement I was scared to answer the phone and now I speak to over 300 people every month.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I have never worked in a corporate environment before so I do not have anything to compare the atmosphere to. Overall, everybody is motivated and pushing to make the best of the month. Everybody is constantly on the phone and driving to make the most of their tine. Its a great atmosphere to work in.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • In a nut shell the placement has been well organised. I have been set clear targets and KPIs to focus on and exceed each week. I have moved desk 3 times due to business need which has taken a lot of adapting to. Organisation has been okay during these times.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • To be trusted with a desk and asked to move desk due to ability and potential to make the most money was a great feeling. It was evident Hays have invested time into me as they believed I could improve. I am so grateful Hays have invested so much into me as an intern.

  • I am definitely concerning coming back to Hays after I graduate from University. I know the business and know how to achieve many benefits throughout Hays. This is appealing as i believe i can hit the ground running if i chose to continue my career at Hays once i finished University.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • End of period celebrations have brought everybody together. Having the opportunity to socialise with all employees of the business has meant i can grow my networking throughout the business. I have made friends for life throughout my placement and wish to stay friends with them when i return to University

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I have always loved Birmingham for its social scene. The bars and nightclubs are brilliant. Helped by the fact it is a University city so lots of people my own age. I am a local so nightlife has always been convenient for me after work and of a weekend. I would recommend.
