    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Really great enjoyed by placement at Intel. At the start of your placement you have a 6 week period where it crosses over with the existing interns. Over this time you learn the job as well as take part in a number of social events to get to know everyone. After this period there are also a number of events on during the year to create a better and more enjoyable work environment for everyone. Definitely a company that cares about their employees!

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Intel as a company really values their employees and has a number of processes in place that allows employees to be recognised for their hard work. As a intern you are also valued as much as any other full time employee and your opinion is taken just as seriously as senior colleagues.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Starting placement, you couldn't ask for more support. Intel host a number of training sessions as well as having the previous intern there for 6 weeks to train you up 1:1. When starting your placement you are also tied with an on-the-job coach who acts as your mentor throughout the year.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • How busy I am on a daily basis depends on the time of the month. Personally I work with a lot of data which is released at the beginning of each month, naturally making me more busy then. Other than working with the data, I receive a number of Ad Hoc requests which ranges in demand and therefore affects how busy I am.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • My intern job as a whole has a lot of responsibly as the data I create and analysis is used across a number of countries to make decisions. As well as being given responsibility with my job role I have also actively sought responsibility in other areas of the business which is actively encouraged by managers.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Throughout the placement I have developed a huge number of skills which I believe will be useful not only when finishing my degree but also in life. My job role demands a large number of analytical and communication skills when putting together and presenting data. I also believe having such responsibility has allowed me to grow in confidence putting me in a great position when searching for future jobs.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Great atmosphere in the office, in particular the department I work in. There are always a number of games and events on to get everyone involved and improve office morel. On a day to day level the atmosphere is good, Intel employees great people and so it's always nice to have everyone around.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Intel's internship is really well structured, starting from the handover period at the being to your handover at the end. At the beginning everything is quite structured to get you going although after that, how much you do in your placement is down to you as an individual. I choose to keep bi weekly meetings with my manager and on-the-job coach although this is completely down to you as a intern.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Over my time at Intel I would agree that a lot of investment has gone into me. Over the year there has been a large number of training courses to improve me individual skills and industry knowledge. As well as the training, ever quarter I will have a quarterly review to talk about what I have done well as well as what I could develop on. Any of these areas are always well supported to make sure I get as much out my placement as possible.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Future employment prospects are appealing as you are usually aware of what the grad job consists of and how you are progress from there. The only criticism I would have is that Intel don't offer a grad scheme where you can rotate across a number of role roles having said this, Intel are very flexible around shadowing.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Really good social scene between the interns and my department. When starting your internship the previous interns put together a social calendar to get to know everyone. After handover the interns have a sports and social club which organise a number of events throughout the year. This year we organised a weekend away which was good fun!

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Swindon is really quite cheap in terms of living and socialising. Where Intel is based in Swindon there are a number of nice placing to eat and drink which don't cost much at all. My rent and bills come to around £340 a month and is located a 5 minute drive away.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife in Swindon is not great. In terms of clubs there is one decent one although, for pubs and bars it does ok and everything is very close together which is a positive. Lucky Swindon is not far from Bristol, Bath or London so I wouldn't let the nightlife put you off.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Intel offer loads of opportunities to get involved in a number of things outside your day-to-day job role. I am currently involved in five different committees ranging from running charity events to encouraging kids to get into STEM subjects. All activities are really flexible in terms of your time but really good to gain skills you wouldn't necessary gain otherwise.
