    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Very much enjoyed my placement, from the work aspect of pushing myself with new and exciting opportunities to the intern family we have at intel. By being in Swindon, almost everyone had the opportunity to carry on living from home to give the most realistic life experience.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Within my team I was treated like a real asset and the opportunity to bring extra thought and creativity to the team. However, outside of this, as there is consistently lots of interns every year, lots of people see this as an opportunity to get their mundane or admin tasks completed by someone else.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Within my role, I was very well supported with a Manager, on the job coach and a buddy. Within this, I felt comfortable coming to any of them with any issues I may have had. I found they were all very happy to give advice and support whenever requested.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I often found myself extremely busy within my role. I had a lot of responsibility and often took additional tasks on top of my already mammoth role. This however was my choice, I personally enjoyed doing lots and this was always appreciated. I always warned anyone who wanted to participate in my role that this is something that will take lots of time.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was often found having a lot of responsibility. This is something that was appreciated in my team as they are often too busy to check up on someone else. However, fundamentally the responsability lies on the Account Manager meaning there had to be a lot of trust to ensure all tasks were complete.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I found that my placement gave my degree the practical to my theory. Or the context to my studies. For my degree in marketing, I believe this placement has given my resl-life experiences and examples to base assignments from. Additionally, this placement has given me a variety of experiece to look for a career in a similar or adjacent field.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office in general is very large for the amount of people there on a daily basis. However, as there are around 50 interns, you always have a community of peers around you. The intel office has areas to relax and play games, to ensure the rest of the office is relatively quiet and friendly. People have thier own cube for privacy but there are often people chatting or on calls.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • We were given a point of contact when going through the recruitment process if we had any questions and meant there was 1 familiar person there on the day of the assessment centre. Training is set up for the first few weeks, otherwise this is all down to individual teams. I was given a ramp plan to complete to ensure I was competent before starting any tasks.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There is a range of support for people within the business to ensure you are happy. There is mandatory training and opportunity to further skills such as additional qualifications. This something that and individual has to lead themselves, Intel is a place where opportunity comes to those who look for them.

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • There is a good oppportunity to grow within the company, with people spending years within the business. There is further opportunity to work abroad and move to a variety of areas. This always starts in BMG for a base knowledge of the business. People ususally branch off from this after a few years.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Within the intern community there was often social events, weekends away and other to ensure everyone is well socialised. After around 4-5 months, clear groups form who all have similar interests and do their own thing Handover at intel is 1 month, where there is a whole social calendar planned. Says it all really...

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • In comaprison to Uni rent, Swindon is very cheap and we had the opportunity to stay in a nice house in a nice area of Swindon. Generally going to eat and drink in Old town is very cheap and good quality. It is important to make sure you are in a nice area with a well built house- there have been issues with other interns' houses.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There are more bars and pubs. There is 1 club that people went to, we have had some very eventful and fun nights out in Swindon. When you have a full time job and spend weekends with other commitments going out is less of a priority. Other larger cities are very close to travel to also.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • This depends on your hobbies. in general Swindon has anything you could possibly need. I had a housemate who was a guide leader so continued this at home. Otherwise there are gyms, clubs etc. One note is that there isnt a large uni in swindon, so making friends within work is important
