    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I was given every opportunity under the sun and more. I was given all the support I need to get involved in any project/area I wanted. Incredible amounts of learning available and my confidence has grown and grown with the amount of responsibility given to me.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I was given special recognition for my hard work and innovation at the Q4 Human Resource Community Meeting. I was given a lot of responsibility and trust in the role that I had from the start, which was incredibly motivating.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I directly reported to one manager who I spoke to everyday (even thought we weren't based in the same office). Communication was great in understanding what needed to be done daily, weekly and monthly. I also had an EPM who acted as a mentor, incredibly supportive and kind.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • The work load was incredibly high, which is a good thing. Fpr a placement, you want as many opportunities as possible to impress and to learn. At the end of the day, you're only there for 12 months and this is exactly what I got, opportunity and knowledge.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was solely responsible for coordinating and running assessment centres all across the UK for IBM's University Placement Scheme and Futures Scheme, dealing with 5,586 applicants throughout the year. If I was on holiday, a significant handover was needed otherwise there would be a disruption in the process.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The placement I chose is not something which directly relates to my course, however it did relate to the career path I want to pursue. the learning opportunities gave me the skills I need to develop as an individual.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • An incredibly friendly office and part of a small, close team of 9. We all supported each other throughout the year, sharing workload and meeting our targets.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Very organized placement scheme with multiple areas of support, given two managers and also part of a sociable intern community.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I was allowed to get involved in lots of different areas of HR, not just sticking to recruitment. As part of our placement, we were required to conduct 40 hours of independent learning, to which we earned digital badges.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    Working from home

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Multiple areas in which you can apply for a grad role in the business, ranging from HR opportunities to consulting roles.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • We had a large intern community in my office, ranging from 30-50 interns in which we had multiple socials and get gatherings.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • My rent was very low (Winchester) however I feel that we got very lucky with our house, as others found themselves paying double to what we paid.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There weren't many places to go in Winchester, a number of bars but no clubs or anything like that. You would have to make a trip. to Southampton if that was the case.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Plenty, the office I worked at had a society which you paid for and you could get involved in football leagues, badminton games etc.
