    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I have really enjoyed my time at E.ON, it was a great opportunity and I think that I have learned and experienced a lot on my time here. It is a very relaxed office and everyone is very friendly. The work that I have done is actually making a real difference et E.ON

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I feel very valued by my colleagues, they are all very supportive of me and my learning and development. I feel like a real valued member of my team. They are always happy to sit down and help or have a chat, and I feel like they listen to me.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager was very supportive of my learning and development, she actively encouraged my learning and development and let me go on any training courses that I thought was beneficial. I also had a mentor outside of my team that I could chat to. Everyone in my team was always happy to help as well.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I think I had a nice level of work, enough to keep me busy in the day, but I never felt stressed due to the amount of work I was receiving. Every now and again I would have a day where I didn't have much to do, but I found things to do!

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a large amount of responsibility in my role. I was able to run my own tenders of up to £250,000.00 by myself. I was in charge of making sure all of my tasks were completed on time. My manager let me be very independent, but offered support when needed.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I think in terms of the technical part of my degree I don't think I developed any new skills. But my time management and organisational skills have greatly improved, which I think is a skill for life. I am also much more confident that I used to be. Have also learnt how to use new systems such as SAP and Synertrade.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The general atmosphere was very relaxed and friendly. Everyone was always willing to help you or have a chat. If you wanted to learn about a new business area, most people were willing to sit down with you for half an hour and have a chat. I never felt uncomfortable.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I think it was set reasonably well, it could have been better if there undergrads had more chance to mingle throughout the year, we had one day at the start of the year and then didn't all see each other until 4 months later again. But generally in my department it was very well organised.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • During my placement I did two training courses, one in Essen Germany in key category management. Which was very interesting and useful. I undertook a beginners training course in Visual Basic Application for excel in Manchester. This was very useful, and a skill I can use for life. I also signed up for quite a few internal trainings to learn more about finance and other areas.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    National Travel

    International Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    Working from home

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Once on the undergrad scheme you have the opportunity to get fast tracked onto the gradate scheme. If your manager thinks you have preformed well throughout the year you can be offered an interview. Out of the 14ish graduates 6 of them got offered jobs at E.ON after they finished there degree.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Unfortunately we were all based at different sites throughout the company, this made organising things hard. We did a couple of nights out throughout the year though which was good fun. I also made good friends with the gradates and other colleagues and did things with them outside of work. I also socialised with colleagues by joining the E.ON football team.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Coventry was not to expensive. My House was quite a nice place and was only 350 a month. There are a few decent pubs and things like that, but the nightlife is not that great. I would suggest living in either Birmingham or Leamington Spa. It was well located though being in the centre of the country made it easy to visit lots of my friends.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife was quite poor in Coventry, with only a couple of clubs that weren't great. They were alright though if you were going out to have a bit of a cheesy night. There's a few decent pubs in town. But its near enough that you can go out in Birmingham and Leamington.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There was a football team organised internally that was good fun. My team had a few social events, such as a team Christmas party and a leaving due for myself. We also occasionally went out for lunch to a pub or restaurant. Also organised stuff with other graduates and went for food and pub occasionally.
