    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of my placement. I had high hopes for this job, and it did not disappoint! The number of opportunities I received whilst at E.ON Community Energy have been beyond I would ever have imagined and the people just topped it off! They are all so supportive and welcomed me as any other employee.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I can safely safe that I never once felt like an undergraduate. Every single colleague I dealt with treated me with the respect of a full time employee, and gave me the same level of responsibility. I can safely say that I feel like a valued member of the team and that I made a difference within the business.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • From day one I had one to one meetings with my line manager who made sure I was managing and that I wasn't overloaded. At the same time ensuring I had enough work to reach my development goals over the duration of my placement. There were times I had a lot of work on and stress levels became quite high, but the support network around me was always second to none.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I have been kept very busy throughout the whole year. There have been a few days where there was slightly less but it is very much left in your hands to make the most out of the opportunities you are given. They do not by any means spoon feed you, but there are so many opportunities available, which I chose to take. So personally, I was very busy!

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • In my placement, I was given the project lead on an innovation study to reduce the capital cost of future district heating schemes. This was very daunting initially but it became my own and I was given the opportunity to take it in the direction I felt was best. As a whole, there was a lot of responsibility given to me, but with the support, it has definitely been what has made me develop the most!

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills I learned were both transferrable to my degree but more so to working life. The technical element of the job wasn't too relevant to my degree, however the life skills I learned were invaluable and not something that can be learnt in a classroom. I learned real like project management, understanding of how a huge business runs and the changes that come with it, soft skills like negotiation and conflict management, but most of all, the importance of team work and trust in a business.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I worked in many offices but general split between three; Nottingham, Coventry and London. All offices were very different but always approachable. As all of my team were very lovely and approachable, there was never a dull moment, however the Nottingham office definitely had the biggest buzz around the place!

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Everything was ready for me upon arrival. A plan was laid out for the first couple of month of my work, with the rest down to my own choosing. The meetings were organised and structured. I was given points of contact right at the beginning and always given guidance throughout!

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There were many courses available online free of charge. The company provided travel and accommodation where necessary to site visits and different offices and events. This definitely helped with networking and other skills. However in terms of courses, I personally didn't do many, but that could have been down to the fact I had a lot of other work that I was involved with.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    International Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    Working from home

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I have since been successful in fast tracking to the graduate programme starting in September 2019. This involved 4 different placements across E.ON group in engineering where I will get to experience many different solutions and technologies across the business.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • This is definitely something that could have been improved. It was very much left to the students to organise their own things and even then, most students were placed across the country which made it very difficult! The students that I have had dealings with are now life long friends, but others I rarely saw.

    2/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I lived at university and commuted as this was half way between the two offices I worked at. Therefore, I can't comment on the cost of living.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Again, due to very little socials, I do not know this either. However, knowing Nottingham anyway, it is a great night out and would definitely recommend!

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I don't know whether this Is because I lived away, but I didn't see much in the way of an clubs or were not told about it if that is the case. For my personal case, I would not have been able to take part in these anyway so I did not make the effort to look.
