    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my internship at Pernod Ricard UK. From the start I was brought onboard with big projects and given a lot of responsibility. The brands I was able to work with are amazing and there is a great culture within the workplace. I would thoroughly recommend working at Pernod Ricard UK if you get the opportunity.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt extremely valued by my colleagues. As interns we were still invited to the various company events throughout the year and received a lot of the same perks as any other employee. I felt like I was a strong member in the team I worked within and whilst I was inexperienced, people would listen to what I had to say.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was in an unusual situation where my line manager left the company mid-way through my internship. However the team were always really supportive and provided help whenever I needed them, particularly in this transitionary period. I do think that some may have struggled in my position as I was without a line manager for an extended period of time, however my colleagues were always there to help.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • My workload would vary quite a lot. I believe this is down to the project-based nature of my role. I would say there were times when I had to actively look for some work, however this definitely wasn't the norm. I had a lot of regular tasks that I would have to complete on a monthly basis.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a lot of responsibility as an intern during my placement. Whilst I wasn't necessarily involved in all of the high-level decision making for projects, I was definitely entrusted quite considerably by the team to carry the work out and manage projects on a day-to-day basis and then feed back to the team.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I believe the skills I have developed will assist me massively moving forward. I have learnt significantly more about the industry since I began and my internship here has only increased my appetite for learning. It has been great to be able to apply a lot of the theory I have learnt from my studies into practice in the workplace.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere in the office was very good. I believe the various cross departmental events the company would run improved this quite significantly. I felt that I had good relationships with different people in different departments. Whilst there can always be improvements to an office atmosphere, for the most part my colleagues were very enjoyable to work with.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Considering I was the first ever intern in my position I think the internship itself was set up very well. Whilst it can be quite hard to plan months in advance for my day-to-day tasks because of the project-based nature of the role, I definitely felt like I was able to work on a variety of different tasks.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I think the company did invest in myself as an intern quite considerably. All of the interns had to go on the same induction and training programmes as the other new starters to the company and I was able to ask anyone in my team for help on different areas of my work.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    Working from home

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • In terms of immediate employment prospects I would say there are good opportunities. The department I work in is restricted by head count and so there are only so many permanent employees they can employ at one time, however vacancies in the company and in other subsidary companies are advertised regularly internally.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Living quite far from the office meant most of my social activity with work was during work events and nights out. However I know that a lot of the team are really sociable and there are definitely opportunities to socialise outside of work with colleagues if desired, this was especially the case within the intern group.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Situated in West London the costs of living and socialising are quite high. However I was able to live at home during my internship which offset at least living costs. Travel costs within the local area are okay, however if travelling from the major central zones it can be expensive.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There are a lot of good bars and pubs in the local area. Only about 20 minutes from central London it's not too far from some of the really popular clubs. I would definitely recommend some of the local bars and pubs, however I know the clubs can be very expensive.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There are lots of sporting and fitness clubs you could get involved in at work. Also in the business park itself there are lots of activities you could get involved in, particularly in the summer. I don't know of any activites outside of work organised by people in the business that weren't fitness releated.
