    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I started off really enjoying my placement as I found it engaging and relevant to my studies. However, within 3 months I found myself doing the same, tedious governance functions day in day out with very little room for progression. It wasn't until I raised the issue with HR that I saw a change.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I had a really good relationship with the majority of members on my team and made friends quickly. Unfortunately, my manager didn't like me for a reason still unknown to me and because of this I don't feel like I wasn't given the opportunities to produce work that could have been valued by my colleagues.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Even though I had 1-2-1's scheduled every 2 weeks with my manager I very rarely received feedback on how I could improve and how I could get the opportunities to show myself that I so clearly desired. This led to a massive morale drop for myself and saw me reach an all time low.

    1/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Volumes varied within my team depending on the time of the month/year. However, I found that there really was no inbetween I was either very bored or had too much to handle. As my role was the same governance day in day out this became extremely tedious especially in times of high volumes.

    2/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • During my placement I don't believe I was given any responsibility until the very last month when I was then given the chance to deal with our only client function. This was due to a change in my manager. Unfortunately for the majority of my placement I was doing a governance function which any errors could be fixed pot pay date.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills I have developed whilst on placement wont really assist me in my degree studies going forward. However, I do feel like I have learned an awful lot about office politics and how to deal with people and management. This was a massive learning curve for me as I have learnt the hard way.

    3/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Dull, there wasn't a lot of atmosphere in the office. Nobody really socialised after work.

    1/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • To begin with I thought it was set up really well. However, after my training was complete at the 3 month mark I feel there wasn't any set scope for continued learning and I only really learnt when I had to cover those on holiday or when people left the team.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I don't feel like the company invest in you at all. To begin with you attend a number of events with your fellow peers and then after that you have very little contact with HR until the end.

    1/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    2/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • To begin with I believe I was sold a brilliant career going forward however after investigating further once in Glasgow Operations it is hard to move out. It does happen but rarely.

    2/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • To begin with yes, we had a number of intern events where we could all socialise however after this nothing.

    2/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Glasgow is a relatively cheap city to live in especially the east end. The west end is a little more pricey. Office is in city centre

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Nightlife in Glasgow is not all that it is cracked out to be.

    2/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
