    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I have enjoyed my time at Hays a lot. Working for such a large organisation and being given all the responsibilities as a normal member of staff has been great. Along with improving vital key skills, the experience I have gained, is going to put me in a much better position after I finish university.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Filling jobs and building relationships with clients is a very good feeling and my colleagues have valued me a lot within our team. From winning consultant of the month to going out together and socialising outside of work, I have felt very valued as a member of staff within the Watford Office.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • They have helped me throughout my time at Hays and have give me advice and support with anything I have needed. Working together on difficult roles and dealing with queries, they have been very supportive and I have built a very good relationship with all of them and everyone in the office.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I would say that I had a lot of work to complete but with a good amount of time to complete it to a very good standard. I would never be bored and there were always things you could be doing to improve the performance of your desk you recruit for.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a desk and all the responsibilities of a standard member of staff. I was recruiting for accountancy and finance professionals within Hertfordshire and dealt with both clients and candidates personally. From meeting and interviewing both parties, to performing business development and sales calls, I conducted everything a normal member of staff would. I was even provided with the responsibility of recruiting new members of staff for the office and next years interns.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills and training that has been provided since day one has been excellent. It is world-class training and you are given support and advice to develop your skills continuously throughout your placement year. Recruitment has given me ability to develop very key skills such as communication, organisation and customer service.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere was buzzing and very friendly. There is never a quiet moment in the office and we frequently socialised and completed activities out of the office. Everyone is there to help and there is a very diverse environment with everyone working towards the same goal of increasing their performance.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The placement was very organised and set up in a way that was very structured and provided me with confidence as each step of the placement was clear and concise. The career path in general for Hays is very evident and everyone works on the same promotion targets depending on what level they are at.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company provided a lot of time and money investing in the development of myself and the desk I was doing.

  • Financial Bonus

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The future prospects are very good and there is an offer for interns to come back to the company and start as an associate consultant and be promoted within three months. This is very appealing to me and I would say this is a major incentive for someone to come back to the business.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Within our Watford office there were only two interns, but all the staff were only slightly older and we socialised and had a lot of laughs within the office. There was a good split in the team in terms of male and female and the age range was varied between 20-50.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Watford was quite expensive, but I lived at home and commuted by car each day. I found that this was a lot more feasible than living nearby in Watford. Socialising was similarly quite expensive but was feasible and definitely worth the money. I would definitely recommend Watford as a place to work.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife in Watford is excellent. A pub just outside and walking distance to the town centre where there are a lot of clubs and places to eat. Myself and one of my close colleagues in the office frequently went to the pubs and played pool in the town weekly.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
