    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It was a great experience to work for one of the world's largest chemical company. The office was very pleasant and colleagues were very easy to get on with. However, the only downside for me was sometimes there was a lack of work, but this made time for extra reading and learning.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Everyone was very easy to get on with and very helpful whenever I had any issues. In the office I was based, many colleagues were working of different projects so this wasn't great in terms of team morale. However, going in as an intern I felt valued by everyone which was great.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was given all the support that I could have needed. Management provided a great level of support and flexibility when needed. You were given enough to not be guided through the work but if you were stuck, the option was always there to ask for help. This was a great aspect of the office I was based in.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • As I mentioned, this varied throughout the year, as there were busy periods and pretty quiet periods too. But when I was busy there was plenty to be working on throughout the day, as well as plenty of meetings to attend. When it was quieter I was also able to do some private learning.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Early on, I was able to have some time to get used to the systems and different areas of the business. However once I was there a while I was able to get a good level of responsibility for a number of projects. Towards the end of my time I felt a lot more competent to take on responsibility

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Massively, I was able to learn a lot about working full time including even just getting in the general routine of a working week. I also learned lots of soft skills in conjunction to the technical aspects of the projects I was working on. They have helped massively in getting a graduate role

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • This was quite a small office with around 25 people in total, however throughout the year there would never have been that many people in the office due to people working from home or being on holidays, as a result the office was quite quiet, however it was still a very nice place to work and modern facilities.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was very well organised and I was brought into a range of different areas which greatly improved the exposure that I got to different areas of the business. I was assigned a buddy and mentor which helped if I ever had any issues. The on boarding process was very well put together

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I was given a good level of training in the basics that would be required for the job and there was plenty of resources available online that could be accessed anytime, lots of various courses that could be completed. If I needed to know anything else there was always someone to ask

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Company Parties/Events

    Above 25 days holiday

    Working from home

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I think future prospects are great with this company, however, currently they are going through a merger, so therefore the future may be uncertain for different locations. However they were a great company to work for and if a suitable role came up in the future I would definitely apply

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was only two other interns during my internship therefore any social events were limited to the usual events throughout the year such as Christmas party etc. We did try and run Friday lunchtimes where the interns would get food from a local place to bring back to the office

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I was able to live at home with my parents so I did not have to pay rent, however Belfast is a very cheap place to live.

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • belfast has a decent nightlife, just depends on the kind of place you are looking for, but there are plenty of options
