Spring Intern Review

I really enjoyed the insight as it was a completely novel experience for me so I was able to learn a lot.

Even in the short space of time working at Goldman Sachs everyone I met was inviting and willing to give up their time to speak with interns. This meant that we had contact with a large variety of employees who gave advice from all areas and levels of the firm.

I think we had the right balance, the HCM team gave us the building blocks and introduced us to the inner workings and then we had to use our initiative to get the most out of the experience.

The work ethic gained in the 2 week programme has set up a good routine for me to work for my degree. We did presentations and pitch competitions which rely on team work and communication skills which are vital.

The insight was well structured considering there was a lot planned into the 2 weeks.

There was ambition and positivity throughout the programme. The interns were social and interested in each other. The firm overall displayed the want to share and help all employees.

I had meetings with employees from different teams who told me what they did and helped me work out where in the division my skill set might be best suited.They put on presentation and pitch tasks to develop our teamworking, time management and communication skills.

Being in the atmosphere of the firm I understood the importance of time and how people use it to their advantage everyday. The advantage of speaking with many employees meant I could ask about their experiences and get a first hand account of the daily workings.

Through all the talks and events the culture was highlighted and we got a strong understanding of what Goldman Sachs stood for and how they bring it into their work every day.

There was a lot of content each day so we got a broad understanding of different possible paths and where we may fit.

Yes we had several networking events and the opportunity to network was endless as we could talk to speakers after their talks and had open lines of communication to employees of the firm through email and IM. This allowed us to set up meetings with employees who were always happy to speak with us.

They were pleasant and open. Food and drinks were usually provided. For a few events it could have helped to have a slightly greater employee to intern ratio.

Yes, we were told about the affinity networks and were able to attend some events as well.

Absolutely, I learnt so much about the finance sector and met some really remarkable people.
