    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I really enjoyed the Insight Programme, and would really recommend it. Having the chance to learn more about teaching and the Teach First mission, whilst engaging with a fantastic group of like-minded young people, was an awesome experience. Some of the sessions dragged on a bit, but on the whole I was very pleased!

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • Although we weren't based at the Teach First office, the people I did meet made me feel very welcome. Mostly I was interacting with fellow insight programme participants, who were a real community. However I can't comment for what it would feel like to be involved in the Teach First offices more directly.

    3/5

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • I felt very supported during the Insight Programme. The first week was very structured, and so it was a constantly supportive environment. Even on the second week in schools, you were surrounded by fellow participants who supported you, alongside a formal phone call from the team to guide you with your lesson.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The information I received will help me to make a far more informed decision as to whether or not to pursue a career in teaching, and if so, whether Teach First is the best route for me personally to gain the most from my initial years of teaching, which was very helpful.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • In general the structure was good- it was clear how the knowledge in the first week was cumulative, and how this was used in the school placement in the second week. Some of the content, e.g. the stuff about corporate partners, seemed a bit out of place from the general flow though.

    4/5

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The general atmosphere was great- and because Teach First provided accommodation for participants, there were loads of opportunities for socializing both during and outside of office hours. There was also a very collaborative and supportive dynamic to the whole scheme. There was a very positive energy in all of the sessions.

    5/5

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There were lots of opportunities for personal development and gaining skills, such as sessions on leadership, presentation, public speaking and reflection. This allowed people to develop their skills over the course of the programme, with the school placement providing a practical way to develop and further these skills as well.

    4/5

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • There was lots of discussion about the Teach First mission and values, as well as the opportunity to talk to people who had taken part in the Teach First programme. The placement in a school also helped to bring to life what working for Teach First would really be like.

    5/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • Very helpful!

    4/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • Very valuable- hearing about Teach First, and hearing from people who have been involved in the programme, helped me to consider whether or not a career in teaching is for me. There is no substitute for first hand experience either, and this was provided through the school placement, which was invaluable.

    4/5

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • As well as being paid very fairly, Teach First provided accommodation and breakfast for the duration of the two weeks. Travel expenses and other meals had to be paid for by the participants, but the wages offered were plenty to cover this and still have some left over, as long as you spent sensibly.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • More networking with peers than with employees

    3/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • Because Teach First provided accommodation for participants, there were lots of social opportunities. Teach First organised formal socials on the first and last nights of the programme, but mostly socialising happened informally, through different participants choosing to get together and get to know each other, which happened very regularly if people desired it.

    4/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • Not specifically, but it was clearly a very social work space

    3/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • A great experience- a real insight into teaching and Teach First, the chance to meet some great people, and very fairly renumerated. Also a chance to experience a different school and location during your placement week, which is interesting to compare to your own school experience, and that of others.
