    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I really did enjoy the Insight programme. It was really nice to meet like-minded students and get a chance to fully experience what the Leadership Development Programme might be like. I found out that the Leadership Development Programme does seem like something that I would like to do, and I had the ability to get an offer for it a year in advance.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • Everyone at Teach First were incredible. They thoroughly valued us as individuals and wanted to ensure that we gained as much fron the experience as possible. Unlike other internships that I've completed they didn't treat us like underlings. Instead they really worked hard to ensure that we developed during the programme, and gained as well as gave.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • Alongside having all of the support the individuals who were running the programme, there was also plenty of support before the programme started and while in the school placement. My university recruiter stayed in contact, and arranged a call with me during the programme to make sure everything was going well.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The first week of the programme had a very specific focus on educating us on how we could improve, and teaching us useful things for our time in the school. The second week allowed for us to fully apply this and personally develop. We then had a final day to reflect which was really valuable.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The overall programme was exceptionally managed. The only issue that I found was that at some points, the undergraduates email did not respond quickly to emails. Apart from this though, we were provided with the pre-programme material early on, and timetables were provided for the entire programme at the start.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The general atmosphere of Insight was very good. There was a lot of possibilites to meet other Insight participants, and they were all very committed to the charity and interested in the cause. Everyone who participated genuinely seemed to care, as this meant alot. It is likely that I will see many of the individuals again.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The firm really did invest in me. They ensured that all of the sessions that they put on had clear learning objectives, and there was always the chance to ask questions where we may not fully understand something. Good resources were provided to make notes, and the resources were also shared with us online so we could use them after the end of the programme.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • The Insight programme really did give me the chance to consider this. Alongside seeing what the training that Teach First provide is like, I also got the chance to have an in School experience and consider what that aspect of the Leadership Development Programme would be like. I am really appreciative of it.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • We saw some of the high-up individuals in Teach First, and also spoke to individuals at all levels in the organisation. This thoroughly gave me the chance to consider how employees felt treated, and what the positives and negatives of the organisation were like. It would have been nice to have spoken to more individuals who had decided to have stayed in teaching following the programme.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • The only area here where I think Teach First could improve would be to explore in more depth what the Leadership Development Programme training is like. I felt they talked about it alot, but they really could have explained how it differed between different subjects and years more. They were on the whole very good though.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • Yes there were lots of opportunities for this. Alongside sessions being led by lots of different individuals in the organisation, others did come in to further talk with us and so on. Like I've said the only thing that could be improved on this front would be the chance to speak to more individuals who have stayed in teaching after the programme.

    4/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • 4/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • This is something that Teach First didn't really cover in the programme. We heard about how they tend to try and place participants together, and how they have social organisations for Teach Firsters at other organisations, but they failed to cover this content. I think they need to improve in this respect.

    3/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • I really really would recommend this to a friend. It is a brilliant insight into the programme, alongside a nice chance to better oneself and learn more about the problem of educational inequality that this country is facing. It is a really good chance for someone to learn whether teaching is for them.
