    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The placement started enjoyable but slowly became difficult to manage as the work was very intense and the deadlines were too tight. It was basically walking around and being interrogated all day. Some offices were fine, and others were not. I felt exhausted after the end of each work day.

    2/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt values by the colleagues, but not by the office staff. Some of them were incredibly rude and this was partially because they were not informed a survey was happening, nor was I gave appropriate uniform to make me fit within the environment. I was treated like someone who was disturbing them, but I was just there to do my job.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was given support via text message and the management / supervisors were extremely nice and responsive when I asked questions. I felt welcomed by them which compensated for the fact the office staff were not nice and that the job was stressful and tiring. Perhaps another office would change my experience.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Extremely busy on a daily basis. It could have been a two or three man job, but I was overworking. At the end of each day I was very tired and not looking forward to the next. The shift few shifts were fine, but you start to wish for breaks.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was responsible for overseeing all of the routines during the office scan times. I was the only person on site that represented the company so I had to take full responsibility for everything that was done, although I could forward things on to my manager. In effect I was contracted by them.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I didn't really develop any skills but I did get a sense of the software and data collection. If anything, I was given more of an insight into office work life and what activities / resources / equipment there is. It would have been nice to see more of the software or analysis side of the data collection.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Generally friendly but as mentioned early, some of the office worker were very rude and not respective of my job. The managers in the office however were extremely friendly and understanding since they knew what my role as a contracted, and I was to report to them any issues I had.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was set up well since it was through an online agency, but some of the communication and the beginning and end was particularly confusing. The wage for instance was paid very late and it multiple amounts not as advertised. There was also no one there on the day to help me get started.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company did not really invest in me for personal training or development, but I was offered to be accepted for other jobs once I had finished, but I have not yet heard anything back from them. I could have been made more part of the company but I suppose it was only a temp position.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • No prospects I was told of.

    1/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There wasn't a good social scene because I never seen or heard from anyone at work, it was only from faceless staff in text messaging. There was no one else there on the placement to talk with so most days were lonely walks around the office. If there was at least 2 people it would have made things a lot better.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost was generally okay but there were very few places to buy things from in the area. Luckily there was a cafe within the office space, but it would have been nice if I was offered some sort of discount for spending there. There was no opportunities to socialise with others.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • N/A
