    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • The insight programme gave me a very broad insight into investment banking. It allowed me to understand the day to day life of workers and they kind of work they do. I have been really lucky to have been on this programme, as this was my first insight in this job market and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I was following a senior investment banker and his team during my time there. They always made me feel my presence and would always speak to me in a friendly manner, whilst ensuring I am making the most of time there. This left me with a good impression of this company, as a student I did not think I would get this much attention.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • Throughout my stay, I had regular small talks and seminars with senior members working there. They very nicely explained the career paths available and what I would be expected to achieve to be in that position. This was the first time I was getting this information, so this was so invaluable as student to know about the background.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I felt the whole insight programme allowed to strengthen many skills which are now proving to be very useful in my current work. During my time there, I was able to develop my presentation skills by giving talks to the senior members, and my ability to work in a team. These are just a couple of skills of many that I have developed. The staff make sure you make the most out of your time.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The really good structure of the insight programme was one of the aspects that stood out to me. i believe that I was able to make the most out of my time because of this. Right on the first day I was given a detailed overview of what to expect and what is expected from me.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • Even though I was only a student at the time, and therefore the lowest on the ladder at the firm. however I was made to feel comfortable and everyone was friendly and helpful towards me. Whenever I was stuck and needed help, everyone was willing to help me with my work. I am still fortunately in contact with many people I met on this programme

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • In terms of personal development, I believe the main members of staff who were looking after me, made great effort to make sure I improved the necessary skills needed to thrive in this field. This includes enhancing my leadership, teamwork and presentation skills. I surely felt more confident in my self, after being on this programme.

  • The content of the insight programme has been hugely valuable to help my decide my career path. It was my first experience seeing the work of an investment banker, and I was hugely impressed by what I saw. The talk I was given during the programme about career paths, was one of the things that drove me on to my current career path.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • Fortunately the bursary department at my secondary school, reimbursed my expenses that I encountered during the programme. I am very grateful to my school even to this day, as without them I would not been able to go on the programme and not be where I am to day. All the experience I gained would not have been possible without the kindness of my school.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • 3/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • The networking opportunities was one of the highlights during my time there. Staff who were responsible for recruiting graduates were holding a session one day and I was lucky to attend it. They gave valuable advice about the options I would have after completing my degree. This gave me a greater understanding of the various options available.

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • 3/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • I would 100% recommend this insight to anyone who is not sure about working in an investment bank, but have an interest. This programme is very well structured, and I feel that I have developed as a person but also the networking opportunities has allowed me to understand where my degree can take me.
