    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • It gave me a key invaluable insight into investment banking, especially the Sales & Trading division at Morgan Stanley. I had an amazing week, learning a vast amount about Investment Banking, Global Capital Markets, Equity Research and Sales & Trading. It has really changed my outlook on what it is like to work at an Investment bank.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • Throughout the week I would take a guess that I met at least 50 people who worked at Morgan Stanley, and not at one point did I feel like I was not wanted. Everybody would always offer their best advice to me, no matter how much finance knowledge I had. Furthermore it was clearly shown that a range of people had given up a lot of their time for the program.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • I was encouraged by everyone at Morgan Stanley to ask questions if I didn't understand anything, this meant that I didnt spend my time at the firm confused. Everybody was willing to answer my questions to the best of their ability. Furthermore the HR team were brilliant with making sure the program ran smoothly.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I learnt a lot of skills needed in a professional environment, something I do not learn in my University degree. This was the stand out skill I learnt through the week, as I had my first face to face interview ever on the last day, helping me to learn how to cope in situations where you need to be able to think on your feet.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • Excellently. We were all given a timetable detailing what, where and when we would all be doing on the spring week. This helped to make it clear on what to prepare for each day. Staff were always around to give guidance on where to go and what was covered in each event we had.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • I can say that I dont think I have ever learnt so much in one week in my entire life! The constant learning made each day interesting for a different reason, whether it would be about a certain division, or learning about life at Morgan Stanley. Along with the rest of the Spring Interns I had a week that I will never forget as I met some amazing people!

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I was lucky enough to meet several staff from the Sales & Trading division, some even in one to one sessions during lunches. This showed how everyone at Morgan Stanley were willing to help everybody, even to the point of meeting me on their own accord to tell me how they find life at Morgan Stanley and about their role at the bank.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • I have a much greater understanding now of what life would be like at Morgan Stanley if I was to work their full time. Whether this is based on what a typical day may look like for certain divisions, what roles they face or to what the culture is like at Morgan Stanley.

    5/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • I can now say that I have a much greater understanding of what life is like at Morgan Stanley compared to before the week. The key points that stood out to me the most was the flat structure at the firm and also the time and effort that goes into giving back to the community by the whole firm.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • Completely invaluable. I came into the week thinking I wanted to work in Sales & Trading (which I do still agree with, but to a much greater extent), but wasnt completely aware of all my options. During the insight I was able to witness the Sales & Trading floor at Morgan Stanley and speak to numerous staff about what it is like to work in S&T. This really reinforced my original thought and is now driving me to make sure I can achieve my goal.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • I was reimbursed for travel to and from London from my hometown, and was also provided with excellent accommodation for the week that was walking distance from the office.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • There was lots of opportunities to network with a range of employees at the firm, from analyst level all the way to Managing director. I met a range of people, at a range of events, including: Dinner, Lunch, Coffee morning, Work Shadowing and interactive games. The methods of networking were a lot different to what I originally anticipated.

    5/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • Very fun, as you were able to meet a true range of people from a range of backgrounds. Everybody was extremely helpful.

    5/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • I was able to learn a lot about Morgan Stanley's commitment to giving back and how the firm encourages everyone to get involved in raising money for charity. In particular the firm's current chosen charity is the NSPCC, I learnt a lot about how people are raising money for the NSPCC and also how staff do their own volunteering in their own time.

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • 100%. If you are interested in finance or even think there's a slight chance you may want to work at an Investment Bank in the future then the Spring Insight week will really help you decide on your future career path!
