Attendee at the insight day Review

I enjoyed the the insight day as I expanded my knowledge of fund management and equities. I liked how M&G proposed an importance on a work life balance and the equity game was the part I thoroughly enjoyed the most. The networking I feel was slightly awkward as at times I didn't get a chance to ask what I wanted as other people were asking and I didn't want to butt in.

I felt valued because the people I sat with immediately introduced themselves and I became acquainted with them. The panel at the end was happy to take a number of questions and the networking element made me feel more valued as these employees have taken time out of their day to answer our questions and offer their perspectives.

I received guidance on the M&G recruitment process and how to be successful at video interviews. I felt the employees did a good job in explaining their various roles and how a finance related degree wasn't necessary and what we should do to better prepare ourselves for a job at M&G or any other investment management firm.

My motivation to succeed in my degree skyrocketed as I now know to work at such a great company requires a hard work. My knowledge of investing in equities has increased and I have learnt that you need to be a diverse person with good social skills as well as technical skills to be successful.

Apart from things being slightly late at times, the insight was well structured by having the speakers and games one after another and not just all at once. I feel the breaks were the right length of time however the area downstairs to in which we had to network in was quite small.

The general atmosphere was positive and friendly and I felt part of a community. This was partially down to the group activities and the fact that we were all of all ages and different degrees. No one seemed snobby and the speakers didn't instill a sense of superiority over us. It was a good atmosphere.

The company invested into us by giving us various talks that I deemed useful.

I understood that the firm is looking for keen candidates and their degree discipline doesn't matter too much.

I learnt a lot about the company culture and that they try to do away with hierarchy and everyone in the company is encouraged to talk to and see others equally. I feel this is a good thing and made me more interested in the company and I learnt that they place an importance on a work life balance.

I believe the content was valuable as I feel like I would want to work in investment management or at least M&G as a company as I enjoyed the investing in equity activity. I feel more activities like this would have been more effective in teaching us about roles in M&G but i understand that time was limited.

I was not reimbursed for this experience. The event was free and only required an application to attend and I have only spent money on transport costs to partake. I believe i was satisfied with the quality of the event and that I am fairly happy to not be reimbursed as the event was a worthwhile experience.

Yes there were during the lunch break and I think the addition of a sheet explaining their various roles was effective in helping us find who to talk to in order to find out what we wanted to know about their role in the company or they themselves as an employee.

The networking opportunity were good and I was able to gain an insight from the existing employees however I felt their were too many students in the area and I felt a bit ignored by some employees. At times I didn't know what to ask and I found I was sometimes just standing in a huge circle listening to things I didn't want to know.

I didn't really and mostly just found out about their jobs.

I would highly recommend this insight to a friend as I was able to see what is required for a job in an investment management firm and the atmosphere was friendly and the food served was good. I enjoyed the equity game and it helped me feel part of a team and I feel other will enjoy that too.
