About You
It was a very informative and well organised experience. I really enjoyed seeing and learning about all the different departments within BP and how it is such a diverse company. I would definitely recommend this as it is a very rare opportunity to learn about such a global company and it helps set you up for a potential career there in the future.
As it was quite difficult to get a place on this programme, BP definietly chose each candidate for a reason and saw potential in them. Therefore they valued each person and wanted to give us as much help as possible so that all our questions were answered and that we could be more successful in a job interview in the future.
Throughout the entire experience we were accompanied by various members of staff all from different departments. They all offered help and were willing to answer any questions as well as provide insight into their role in BP. Therefore guidance and support was constantly provided enabling us to feel comfortable and encouraged to learn.
The programme opened my eyes to many of the oppertunities I can pursue once I have completed my degree. It provided me with more focus so I can aim down a particular career path as their are so many options available at BP. They also provided many interview and application tips which will be applicable not only for a job with BP but many other large companies and businesses.
The Company
Very well structured. The day started by going over the timetable which highlighted each activity throughout the day including lunch. Each activity/talk was organized so that there was always enough time for questions at the end. All the activities were also kept to about an hour long each so that everyone maintained interest.
All members of staff that we met were enthusiastic and happy to meet us. All the activities were engaging and we felt very welcome. All the other candidates were interested and engaged. BP managed to create a very interesting learning experience. Also the uildings were very modern and well designed creating a warm atmosphere for learning.
As BP specifically selected the people who were able to attend out of hundreds, they definitely had made an investment in us from the beginning. Throughout the day we were given tips and information guiding us on how to be a successful applicant for future insight weeks and even helping guide us towards starting a career there after university.
Over the course of the day, we engaged with a variety of people from head of departments to people in HR to recently employed graduates. They all gave us a different insight into what it was like working for BP and the various responsibilities they have. They also told us about the extra-curricular opportunities available at the site such as five aside football, giving us a very good insight into what its like to work at BP.
By seeing various aspects of the company we were able to see the atmosphere BP creates for its staff. Through little reading nooks in the offices to sports teams, BP's company culture was very positive and very team oriented. It was clear that every member of BP was valued and each person's work was valuable to the company.
Before this insight programme I was unsure of what career I wanted to pursue after university. However during the programme I was opened to many career oppertunities I did not eve know existed. They explained the variation of careers within BP and how graduates are often put on a 3 year scheme, where they change position each year to help find what suits them best. I particularly found the Downstream Commercial scheme the most interesting and potential for my future career.

Travel expenses.
Contact details were provided as well as opportunities to exchange LinkedIn with members of staff on your own accord.
If you wanted to discuss something further with someone you met at BP, you could request contact details, however, was not provided readily for everyone.
When speaking to some of the recent graduate employees I discovered that BP offers a host of extra-curricular activities to help reduce stress and improve worker satisfaction as well as make friends outside of your department. This includes a running group, 5-aside football, squash and a gym. Anyone is able to take part and the yearly cost is about £30.
Definitely! It has been a great opportunity especially for someone like me studying Geography. I have learned a lot and it will be useful in my future endeavors.
