    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I really enjoyed the internship and it provided me with a great insight into the company and its technology. The Spring into Technology internship had a mixture of networking, coding challenges and introduction talks into different areas of the company. I learnt a lot about the technology stack, met some really smart people and had fun in the evening social activities too!

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I felt very valued. During work shadowing opportunities, graduates and full time employees took time off the day to day work to talk with us and give demonstrations on their work. Next, during one of the coding challenges, there were many technologists there to run things and help us along. J. P. Morgan really put their time and effort into us to give us a good insight into the company and we got to meet some important people.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • The spring week was run by a team from HR, they were amazing, planned things so well and kept us informed with what was going on. If there was any issues, we could approach them so easily. Next, there was also lots of support from other technologists with JPM, they were happy to talk about what they do and give us tips on what to do next.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The coding challenges were very fun. We were able to apply programming knowledge to solve problems and there was also a challenge related to Agile which was very interesting. These are skills which we require in day to day software development so was very useful. Additionally, there were talks on security and UX which was fascinating too.

  • The atmosphere was friendly and all employees were happy to talk about what they do and give us demonstrations. The well structured 3 days had group activities which allowed all the spring week interns to get to know one another well.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There was little technical training. It was mostly coding challenges which allowed us to apply some of the topics we learnt at university. Nevertheless, I felt that I was able to develop my soft skills throughout these activities. All the activities involved teamwork and some of them had presentation aspects too.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • The work shadowing gave us a good impression of what it would be like to have a full time role in the company. We were shown around the offices and saw the working environments including meeting rooms and the desks were teams sat together. Talking with different technologists gave a good idea of the culture within the company and the different opportunities available.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • Since I lived in the area, accommodation was not provided for me. However, I do know that many others stayed in hotels which was all paid for and arranged my JPM. Nevertheless, travel expenses were reimbursed and for those staying in the hotel, a coach was provided everyday. Additionally, transport to social events around the city was also arranged by the company.
