    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • The spring insight week at J.P. Morgan was an excellent opportunity to find out more about the banking sector and the specific area that you might like to go into. I enjoyed the week immensely and learnt a huge amount about the sector. I also have much more technical knowledge on finance.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I felt valued during my time at J.P. Morgan. Everyone was really keen to speak to the spring interns and answer all our questions. Everyone we met seemed keen to meet us and find out about what we were interested in. I got the impression that everyone was keen to meet the spring interns regardless of how busy they were.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • We were given a lot of great insight into the application system for summer internships. We were also able to speak to a lot of people during the week so we could ask for guidance. Everyone I met during the insight week was very supportive and always happy to answer any questions you had.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • Throughout the week, employees came and spoke to us about the specific area they worked in. This meant that when we went on rotations we had a solid understanding of what that area did what was really helpful and enabled to you to ask more specific questions. They also maximised the time we had by making lunch each day a great networking opportunity.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • There was a great atmosphere at J.P. Morgan and it was really noticeable how friendly everyone was. I particularly noticed how supportive colleagues were towards each other and everyone seemed more than happy to help each other out. On the trading floor, especially, I noticed how well everyone worked together and how much fun they seemed to have in the process.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • 5/5

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • The presentations given about each aspect of the division you choose help you to understand what it is that they do. It also enables you to determine the specific areas of the division that your more interested in. I found my time on the trading floor the most useful as I was able to determine whether I would rather do sales or trading and what financial instrument/s.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • You could tell from the offset that integrity and trust was key to J.P. Morgans culture and success. It was clear that all the employees we met put a high emphasis on this in the work that they did. The insight allowed a lot of time for network and this is when you can particularly understand the culture of the company.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • J.P. Morgan covered travel expenses and if you required accommodation it also provided you with it. Each division stayed in a different place in London. It was really good staying in the same place as the rest of your division because it meant that there was always someone to travel back with once you had finished for the day.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • There were loads of networking opportunities. I thought that they were really well organised and enabled people who were confident networkers and not so confident networkers to make the most out of the opportunities. When on rotation you also met a huge number of people on different desks and it was really noticeable how friendly everyone was.

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • They had two social events during the week which were opportunities for you to meet all the other spring interns from the other divisions. I found this really useful as you could also find out more about their division and it was a great way to network with other spring interns. The were a huge number of networking opportunities. These were really well structured and made it less daunting to network with very senior professionals.

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • On the last day we had a talk from someone who worked specifically on this. We were told that there is lots of sport and music that goes on outside of work at J.P. Morgan. They also run numerous business events that are run outside of work to allow you to learn new things and meet new people in other lines of work within the bank.

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • Definitely! I learnt so much and have gained a huge understanding of what goes on in an investment bank. Some of the knowledge I gained during this week will help me hugely in preparing applications in the future as well. It was also an extremely valuable opportunity to network and the people you meet during the spring week will be of great use to you in the future.
