    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • Throughout my week, I have learnt so much about property. The department I was in was agency and I didn't know much about that side of the property industry. However this week I now have a dense understanding of what agency consists of and have been a part of a great team. Everyone in the Cambridge office was very friendly when I arrived and I felt very privileged to be here. On some days, I was able to join my team on site visits and attend meetings which has given me invaluable experience that I know will aid me in the future not just at university but also when I start working afterwards. It was also very considerate of the directors to attend lunch with the insight students and share their extensive knowledge and also to have an informal chat about what they do on a day to day basis.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • It was great to feel part of a team for a week. Everyone would always be looking out for me even when I had work to do ! In the evening after work, certain people from the office would ask if I wanted to join them for drinks which I thought was really courteous as it showed that they were interested in who I am and what I am doing. It felt like I had been working here for years.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • The tasks given to me were at times challenging. Some more than others and I never felt as though I couldn't ask anyone for some help if I was stuck. My mentor, Rupert has been excellent. He was really engaged with my week and would always ask if I needed any help on the certain jobs he'd given me.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • As a first year student, the experience I have gained here will be tremendously useful for the rest of my degree. Not just property information but how to engage with people on a day to day basis and also manage them. I found attending certain meetings and just listening to what the professionals have to say has really helped my knowledge of the property industry.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • In my opinion, the Insight programme has been superbly structured and it has been really good fun to be able to be part of it. I thought that the conference calls with the powerpoint slides have been extremely useful. Especially as to who Savills are and what they do. The speakers were very clear and the information provided was beneficial.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The Cambridge office has a wonderful vibe. Everyone has been so friendly and accepting which I think really affected how much I engaged with everyone this week. Being in such a friendly environment allowed me to show who I was without feeling as though I was being monitored and checked. It was nice to not be in the office all the time too. Going on site visits and meeting clients was a great experience.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Throughout my week I was looked after very well. I was always busy and everyone was always looking out for me by asking questions and seeing if I needed any work. I thought that the PopwerPoint presentations were excellent and very detailed. It really gave me an insight into what Savills employees do on a day to day basis. I also thought the lunch with some of the directors was very beneficial and it was nice of them to come along in their busy schedule !

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • Shadowing a graduate was the best way in showing what a full time job is. Straight in on Monday and I was calling people on the phone asking questions which I thought was challenging at first but got easier along the way. Everyone in the office is always busy and it really helped me understand how people working full time do their job.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • Savills is such a large company so understanding the culture of one of the many offices around the world was very important. There is a great vibe about the Cambridge office and they truly show the culture of Savills. Easy to talk to, understanding, leadership skills. Everyone showed how fun and engaging it is to be at Savills.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • This week has shown me so much and I can't thank Savills enough for the experience I've had. Being in the Agency department which at first I did not know much about, has helped tremendously in my decision for the future. I also learnt a lot about the other departments too which I thought was very useful. I know for a fact that I would like to do property and im hoping that it can one day be at Savills!

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • Yes on some days the Insight students including myself and the graduates after work would attend social networking events in which other people from different firms were there. It was very interesting to ask them questions about what they do and if they are enjoying it. As I said above too, the directors lunch was fantastic and it prompted me to ask questions at them as they are high up in the property industry so plenty of knowledge !

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • In my opinion, the opportunities were not limited and i would always be asked if I wanted to attend the events when they were on. Not just Savills ones either. It was great to get out the office and just have a chat with people in the profession who have valuable knowledge to someone young like me who is looking to enter the property world.

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • Yes 100%. The amount of experience and knowledge I have gained is invaluable. If I could I would have stayed until someone said go back to University! It was such a wonderful experience and so different to a week at university. I had such a great experience at Savills and it has fuelled me to work hard at university in order to potentially attain a role in Savills. Thank you to everyone who has taken their time to offer this programme.
