    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I had a thoroughly insightful and interesting week.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • The team were so welcoming and straight away this really eliminated my first day nerves. The entire office made sure to introduce themselves and made it clear that I could speak to them and ask any questions at any time during my week. They were also keen to welcome me into their teams if I wanted to experience a different department. I really think that being in a regional office with one other student helped me to become more involved with the company.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • It was made clear on my first morning that any questions could be asked to anybody within the office. My mentor was so supportive and keen to ensure I was always busy. She regularly checked I was okay with the work I had been set as well as ensuing I had a constant work load, which I welcomed. As previously mentioned, the team were more than willing to explain things and take time out of their own work to help me.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The Insight experience has really motivated me work-wise - timed well considering I have exams coming in a month or two. Through speaking to various people in the office, I have advice regarding pathways and accreditation that will be instrumental in deciding whether to pursue a Masters.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The Insight was well structured with the departmental overviews providing a skeleton-like structure to my week. Slightly more in depth overviews would have interested me as I felt I was left with just a flavour of the departments, but I suppose they served their purpose as overviews for doing so.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • A very welcoming one in which I was encouraged to become involved in the office and their work.

    5/5

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The team were keen to spend one-on-one time with me and so were willing to invest a fair amount of their time into 'showing me the ropes'. As a company overall, it was clear from day one that Savills invest heavily in young people and their careers. The Insight programme taught us about the various departments, with speakers from all of the company taking time out to explain their worklife and what it entails.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • I think it is difficult in a week to completely understand what a full time role would entail, but the Insight gave me a good idea as to what working at Savills would be like. I had a good idea as to how the team system works and how I would fit into it, if I were to work for the company.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • It was clear from the outset that the staff love to work for Savills. I had no idea what to expect from the office environment but was made so welcome. Through the 'Overview of Savills' presentation, I was able to understand how important the company culture is to the company. Its evident through the events such as Networking but also the sports teams etc. that it is very much a 'Work Hard, Play Hard' attitude at Savills.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • Being given work really helped me to understand what my chosen role involves. Speaking to employees at Savills really helped me to decide what pathway I should follow. It also made it clear that I would love to go onto the Graduate programme which is something I'm now aiming for. The 'APC Overview' and 'Graduate Opportunities' talks were very useful and made clear that there is a lot of support on offer.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • We were able to claim expenses for commuting costs of up to £100. I submitted train fares.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • As part of the programme there was a lunch and drinks. These were very useful in meeting different teams. On a more casual level, I met people in the kitchen! There was definitely a welcoming atmosphere and also reassured that no question was a stupid one. Those I met were keen for me to email should I have any questions or wished to gain more experience.

    4/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • Very welcoming, well organised and useful.

    5/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • It's clear that Savills loves to ensure its employees are having a good time! Through presentations I found out about the graduate life but also about the fundraising and sports teams I could become involved in. It was clear how important networking is to the company and they were keen to tell us about how this is facilitated in both a corporate and casual manner.

    5/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • I would definitely encourage my peers to become involved in the scheme, but for them to consider a regional office as well as the London one. I feel that more experience in different offices would really help to cement what it means to be part of the company and to understand what kind of team/office I would like to work in.
