    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • From the hotel to networking to the talks, there was always something to learn. From the other interns to the workers, there was always someone to help you. It's definitely been an eye-opening experience in what it's like to work at Barclays, in the technology department. I've enjoyed work shadowing in different departments and being involved in meetings with them, which has helped me to gain a practical insight into what department I could see myself in.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • With a cohort of 49 people, it's going to be hard to feel unique but it's about making the most of your placement and putting yourself in situations you wouldn't usually see yourself in. Although it's hard to do this is the talks, with networking and work shadowing it's much easier to be more vocal and don't be afraid to ask questions! Keep asking questions until you understand fully.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • The insight was more focused on highlighting the opportunities that are available at Barclays; however, there was a very informative talk on CV and interview tips and asking the right questions at networking events can go a long way! Since there is such a variety on what people see themselves in, it's hard to give general support to everyone, but Barclays has done a wonderful job of giving an overview so you know where to look next.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Without a doubt, I've developed a range of skills, from teamwork to problem-solving. A work-long project that you do with a group of people is given to you. The group that I was in consisted of a range of people, with some having mathematical backgrounds and others with more essay writing backgrounds; therefore, my communication and negotiating skills were honed.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • It was very well structured with a range of activities throughout the week, with networking dinners/lunches and group project work and a range of talks: from cybercrime to a technology showcase. One thing that was hard was that all the talks seemed to be in one go; therefore, it was to stay awake at the beginning of the week. Therefore, it would be nicer if the networking and talks were more spread out/

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The was a great vibe and energy from the cohort I was with. People were always willing to help you, and there was no sense of competition or animosity with the group around me. Also, the icebreakers at the start of the week and the group teamwork talk helped so much with making me understand myself and my team more, and appreciate the differences between us.
