About You
It was truly amazing as the people both within the firm and other spingsters were very friendly, smart and kind. The insight with its coding activities, lectures, work shadowing sessions and socials was organised well and everyone (even people with special dietary requirements) was well provided. I would definitely recommend it to anyone interested in working in this field.
It was honestly very surprising as to how quickly I connected with people and everyone started to feel like a family. It may just be because the HR helped to create a very warm, positive and friendly atmosphere but also all the participants themselves were super nice, respectful and just generally very lovely people that I will keep in touch for a long time.
I think I got as much as I needed with also enough freedom left. For some tasks the rules could have been provided in a wee clearer manner but maybe us dealing with uncertainty was also one of the criteria they judged us on to see how we deal with that. The HR people and the mentors were always very friendly, supportive and helpful so there was never a problem to go up and ask them something if I needed to.
I think I was provided with a lot of specific advice on HR, recruitment process, general team working, working under pressure and within limited time skills. I think There was a lot emphasis put on all of the these things and both theoretical knowledge and interactive team work sessions helped to take this information in.
The Company
The was definitely a good work / relax balance so even with quite a few intense thinking periods like coding challenges and lectures you can still get enough time to relax pr just joke around with friends for a while. The activities were again well planned and organised so it was always clear what is going on, they did not feel repetitive or boring.
Honestly just very friendly, inclusive and supportive. Everyone was super funny and smart so you can just be yourself and feel comfortable. I liked that it was neither too relaxed neither too strict and official, so I guess again they found a good balance to make it feel like a nice workplace.
I would say they definitely made it interesting for us and allowed to explore different kinds of business from cyber security to development. Due to the nature of the event we did not get any training as we are not starting the job any time soon, but I do think they provided us with as much information of about the industry and the company as we need and there was plenty of opportunities to ask questions of different kinds of people.
I got to know quite a lot of interns and senior workers; we had work shadowing sessions and interactive agile methodology session. Obviously without actually doing the work and as computer science work is not something that is easily grasped compared to some other industries it is hard to be absolutely clear but considering everything I have a pretty good idea of how this would look like.
Again I talked to many staff members, we had graduate panel and we could ask anything we cared about so I think I got enough opportunities to learn about the company's work ethics and culture quite well. Also - the HR person Rachel was just amazing and very talkative so we got to know a lot from her.
It was definitely very helpful and I would say overall very immersive experience to get an idea of how not only Deutsche Bank works but also the kind of work this industry is doing. I think having this understanding will definitely help me to arrive at some decisions on my personal career more easily.
Everything Else
I did not need any reimbursements but others were generally well reimbursed for their travel tickets and got to live in fancy hotel so it super nice of them.
Yes, there were literally plenty of opportunities, not only during the events but just generally anytime during the day as the event took place exactly in Deutsche Bank offices. Everyone was very friendly, honest and willing to talk to us so there was no problem the get answers to any of our questions.
Lovely! We went bowling the first day and had networking dinner the next so there was definitely plenty of time to meet and get to know other people very well. And again people were just very open and keen to talk to us, so there was not weirdness or artificiality that sometimes can be felt in such events.
Yes, they said they tend to go out together with their team (even if team members are of different ranks / experiences / age), interns with other interns and there are some sports teams that some get involved in so it seems like it is truly a very friendly and inclusive environment.
Absolutely. I got to learn so much about so many things and everyone that would be even a bit interested in computer science and banking should attend to learn about the possibilities and work environment of one of the leading banks in the world. This was genuinely a great experience for me.
