About You
You learn a lot in a short space of time which is really beneficial.
Nobody treats you like a child or a temporary intern. You are spoken to as an adult who has been at the firm for years. Everyone takes you seriously and never makes you feel "stupid" for asking questions.
You are given a buddy who is a mentor during the 2 weeks. And an advisor for your group project.
My understanding related to banking has developed. I also learnt transferable skills like networking and working in teams.
The Company
It is well structured - you are told your timetable at the start. However, it would've been nicer to know what the structure would be like before starting the internship to prepare travel etc.
The work was good however I think more networking sessions would have been nicer especially since we only got to work/interact with our group rather than do sessions with our entire division.
The firm made a lot of effort in terms of providing you with people to speak to and network with. For example you are given a buddy who supports you through the scheme. There are also talks given about the firm and industry which develops your knowledge which is helpful.
We had work shadowing sessions which were helpful by seeing what the firm actually does. You are also given access to a lot of facilities like the computers which makes you see how a normal day would be like.
The structure is very flat which I liked. Even as an intern I felt like my opinion was valued and I could speak to anyone regardless of how "senior" they may be.
I feel like I am less intimidated by the finance sector and I am more confident with myself
Everything Else
You are paid for the internship and travel expenses are reimbursed. If you live far, they provide a hotel.
At the start and end of the internship you have receptions where you meet people. There are also work shadowing sessions where you interact with employees about the work they do. You have a buddy who guides you. You also have advisors for your group project who help you with it.
There were many chances to network but not so many were "social" for the tech division.
We were given information about the community work GS takes part in. You are also given a chance to attend a fitness class of your choice.
Yes, you learn so much and develop so many skills outside of the classroom. It really gives you an insight into how working life will be like - the good and the bad stuff! This scheme has developed my confidence and knowledge of the finance sector and developed me as a person.
