    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • The event is amazing and well-structured. We have a good balance between work shadowing and hand-on coding challenge. The social events are the best. We went to flight club to play darts game with some JPM reps and we got to meet some of the different reps during social networking. True there are things need improving but I will still say this is my best spring week experience ever.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • Before I joined JPM for the spring week, I was terrified that employees working at large enterprise like JPM might be serious and don't care about us or even hate us buzzing around. But that's totally untrue. Everyone I met treated me really friendly and during networking session they would answer my questions patiently and gave me some really useful tips.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • We got mentors through every challenge we met and we had seniors to seek advise from. I felt like no matter what question I encountered, if I cannot solve it by myself, I can always find someone to help me with it, like I was never alone. Also they made it pretty nice to always have a group for coding challenge, so you can always get help from your group mates.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I think the skills I developed most is not technical skills as I have expected but social skills like networking with seniors to get advise and group working. JPM showed us clearly that what kind of future employees they are looking for throughout the whole spring week. For instance, even during coding challenge sessions, the score is not only based on the coding outcomes but more on how you worked as a group.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • It's pretty well-structured. We have a mix of introduction talks, work shadowing, networking and hands-on experience like coding challenges. So we can gradually build our interpersonal skills. I also like it pretty much that we had two work shadowing sessions one at the beginning and one at the end. The first one is like more general, showing us around the firm and some general talk about their roles and day to day work while the second one we actually got the chance to sit by their desks and watch them just do their work for a while. That was a really interesting experience.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • It's really fun! Social events like darts game were awesome. I liked darts game so much because we got to find out more about the area and have some taste about what JPM employees will do to socialize with each other after work (plus the game itself, I just love it, so much fun). The coding challenges are awesome, we got different types of challenges and all of them were fun!

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Because I am in the spring program so I would say not much during this period. But we have heard a lot about how JPM has invested in its employees. For example, if you would like to study part time for master, the company will totally support you and cover the fees for that.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • I really didnt know much about how tech people work in JPM before I came. To be honest, most of my knowledge about JPM came from the movies about the Wall Street. So spring week totally changed my stereotype towards JPM and I certainly knew more about technology department, its different devisions and how people work on a daily basis.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • The spring week helps significantly to show me that JPM is a really friendly and supporting company. It is dedicated to give back to the society by employee volunteering projects and competitions like Code for Good. I think I understand JPM's culture so much better now that I was before.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • Because now I understand so much more about JPM, its culture, it's people and how they work at JP Morgan, it really helps me a lot when I need to consider my future career path.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • Because I am not based in London, so I applied for accommodation and travel. JPM took care of accommodation way much better than I have expected. I got to stay at a really nice hotel studio room (love it so much). My travel expenses to and back from London is completely reimbursed and I got a one-week travel card for London tube.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • We got plenty of time to network with employees of the company. We had networking lunch and dinner. We had work shadowing sessions. We had graduate panels to ask the recent graduates about their paths to JPM and what they are doing now. And we could talk with our mentors during and after the coding challenges.

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • It's perfect. We got plenty of them therefore we could meet many different employees and talked with them.

    5/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • There are lots of activities. For example, employees can get involved in volunteer works. They can apply for master courses if they want to. And there are many different societies in JPM. The societies will hold their own social activities after work for employees to join and relax themselves and meet more people.

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • Definitely recommend spring week to my friends! I think it is a good way for you to learn about the company's culture and get some advise from seniors. You will have a profound idea of what the role you may apply for in the future really does. And more importantly, you will have great fun!
