    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • The insight provided me with an opportunity to learn more about the company, which included things I didn't previously know. It opened my eyes to the wealth of opportunities at the company and, through hearing the career paths of various different people at EY, gain a better understanding of the culture.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • The EY staff at the insight made us all feel extremely welcome on arrival, during the programme, right the way through until the end. They always put the interns first and were very approachable if you had a question. During the presentations there was a real warmth about them, which shone through during the technology showcase.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • During the Hackathon, EY assigned a designated professional to each group in order to facilitate the exercises. Clear instructions were always given and, if you didn't know you what you were doing, there was always someone on hand to help out. Particularly, the Q&A session cleared up any further questions that anyone had at the end.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Something I found particularly useful was the one of the hostesses providing information on how best to succeed at assessment centres. This is something I have taken into subsequent assessment days to stand me in stronger stead. In terms of the insight content, I now realise how many different opportunities there are, which will help me to decide the best route for me in later life.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • Events were extremely coherent with breaks in between each. These breaks allowed interns to be able to network, as well as the opportunity to speak to the EY staff and guest speakers. Itinerary was provided in advance and was well stuck to, with EY providing food and drink at regular intervals throughout the day.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The atmosphere allowed everyone to gain a great knowledge of the company, and it was very pressure free. Advice was always available and activities were always fun and interactive. The hosts were very friendly and EY staff very approachable, making it a very relaxed environment. Everyone felt at ease, but also the competitive nature of the interns provided a great mix.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Dedication section of the day was focused around how we can succeed in future job applications. We were taught top tips for assessment centres and how to conduct yourself during the interview process. I will be able to use these tips to give me a higher chance of success in the future.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • The panel Q&A was really interesting. Each of the 12 round tables got the opportunity to pose a question to the panel, who responded with great depth. This section provoked many questions about the working environment at EY, which gave us a better understanding of the daily functions of the company.

  • The panel Q&A was really interesting. Each of the 12 round tables got the opportunity to pose a question to the panel, who responded with great depth. • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • The day opened my eyes to the different opportunities within technology, an area I had never previously considered. It made me realise that there is more to a professional services firm than just audit, assurance and tax. It may be that I've realised that technology isn't for me, but I know others who have been inspired by the programme and it is now something they can see themselves doing.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • Fantastic accommodation at the DoubleTree by Hilton at Tower of London, accompanied by travel expenses covered to the cost of £150. The hotel room included breakfast and the room itself was exceptional. Breakfast and lunch were provided at the venue, in addition to food and free drinks at the evening social.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • Yes the whole programme was designed around networking, with every break opportunity giving interns the chance to chat with EY staff in a more informal environment. The EY employees were very welcoming and always had time for a chat if you had a problem. The social also provided us with the opportunity to play a bit of crazy golf with them, which was very fun and relaxing.

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • The social especially was a great opportunity to network with the employees in an informal setting. We met two EY consultants, Harry and Suketu, who joined us for a round of crazy golf, while answering our questions as went through the holes. It was nice to feel so at ease with the employees.

    5/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • There was brief mention of various societies at EY, however this was only touched upon during the panel Q&A. Also mention of ceremonies abroad that employees get taken to, offering an extra dynamic to the working environment. However besides these two incidences, the interns were not provided with a very deep knowledge of activities in the workplace.

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • Yes, this insight provided me with a superb foundation for knowledge about EY, while improving my ability to communicate and network with those more senior to me. The environment on the whole was very relaxed, even when talking to the CIO, which made everything so much easier. A particular highlight was the technology showcase, allowing us to get hands on experience of the technology that EY are developing and utilising.
