    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • The insight week was incredibly different to other insight weeks etc. It was somewhat less formal than tradiontional spring weeks. Lots of things, from the dress code to the casual nature of the speakers made the 2 day programme much more enjoyable. The staff were all friendly and well organised.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • We were made to feel like all our views were important, however it was hard to not feel like just another number at times. The emphasis on the size of the company meant it was apparat that the environment was not for everyone. Also, with everything being in large groups, it was not personal, not that I was expecting it to be personal.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • The first day was very informative with a lot of speaking and listening. While this was well guided, it was content heavy and at times it was too easy to lose concentration. The second day involved a more independent project which was far more fun. Definitely the highlight of the two days.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • If I’m honest, I don’t believe that it will specifically help me in my degree. However it will help me make career choices and I understand the culture of EY much more thoroughly. I would say that it is good to see EY looking at more technology, however more is to be done. The reality is, the people who actually know the most about technology is people our age. Some of the information from EYX is great, but guess what, many of us have heard of all that before, but actually so much more. The department needs younger people with an even bigger vision.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • Well structured and well organised. Sessions ran to schedule and the HR staff were particularly efficient and caring. The sessions were well thought out and there were plenty of EY staff around to talk to and get insights from. The location was easy to get to and the food provision was excellent.

    5/5

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • As I said in the first question, the environment at this EY insight programme was particularly impressive. I wouldn’t say this is down to the company culture but the organisation of this particular programme. By having a business casual dress code (as opposed to strictly smart), by having the gold social, by having open, friendly staff, the balance was struck perfectly. It didn’t feel like a constant test (as it has done in other similar programmes), so you can focus on learning as much as possible yourself.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • It was clear that this wasn’t a cheap programme to run! (Not for an individual anyway). I feel that we were informed well of the different service lines within EY, and it seems that many of the people here are considering a career in EY. It is an investment, however I’m not sure how valued we are.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • I’m not sure if we got a good idea of life in EY. To get information about day to day life as an employee at EY, I had to talk to individual staff. Also, the director in the panel seemed to twist all the questions asked into why EY was so great. It would be better if she was honest and answered the questions.

    3/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • We Got a good insight into the company culture, however it is hard to know for sure what it is unlike until you experience it. The answers given to the whole group were often different to what staff would say when talking 1 2 1 outside during the break periods.

    4/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • The content helped me understand more about the different service lines at EY. However, a lot of the information given, particularly on Monday afternoon, was a bit bland and so it was hard to really grasp what work life is like. I suppose it made me understand that’s ey is investing in technology more than most other companies.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • There were many employees from the company here at different points during the 2 day programme. It would have been better to have spoken to more employees from areas outside technology. It is hard to know from this how technology is being adapted across the firm as opposed to just in these few technology related service lines.

    5/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • The social event was at the junkyard golf place in shoreditch, London. It was a fun, casual environment where we were able to get to know the fellow participants as well as many of the EY staff. The Australian lady from recruitment was particularly helpful and talkative which was great. (Sorry, I’m bad with names).

    5/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • This topic was not really touched on very much. We got the impression that EY would support you if you had outside commitments that you would like to pursue. I also felt that it was clear that some sacrifices would have to be made if you wanted to get promoted etc.

    2/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • I think this was definitely one of the best spring weeks I could have hoped for. The relaxed environment allowed for a really enjoyable experience while also learning a lot. The technology showcased was particularly exciting and its great to see where EY thinks the future will go regarding technology.
