  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • The group project that we were assigned was fundamental to a report from one of the divisions so I felt that our work was very valuable.

    4/5

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • We were each assigned a buddy and two champions within the division who were there for any questions and queries we had. We had multiple sessions with our champions over the two weeks, as well as lunches with our buddies. Everyone else was also happy to talk with us about their divisions over coffee or lunch.

    5/5

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Although I study modern languages, the programme really helped improve my analytical and technical skills, as well as my teamwork and presentation technique, which will all come in very useful in my degree. The technical training will be very useful for future internships and work placements within the financial industry.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • There was a good balance between presentations, technical classes, free time for projects and networking opportunities. The first two days were firm wide events for all the interns with employees from across divisions. Following that we split into our divisions for more training and teach in sessions before being assigned to desks on the divisional floor.

    5/5

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • We had presentations and teach-ins on interview training, presentation skills, diversity networks, technical skills and the different divisions and subdivisions at GS. We were encouraged to ask questions whenever we did not understand something and to contact employees about their divisions following on from the teach in sessions about the different subdivisions.

    4/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • While only our project really delved into an analyst's role we were able to get a good idea from speaking to various employees and our buddies of what a typical day at work is like for them. The variety of work was made explicit when we asked what they usually did, which was something that really attracted me to GIR.

    5/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • In the first two days there were multiple presentations on the firm's culture from employees across divisions about the firm's culture. We also had meetings with the directors of the division who were able to give us an insight into the firm's culture across the world. In addition we listened in to a firm wide EMEA meeting held by the CEO who explored the company's culture and future in extensive detail.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • There were many networking opportunities structured into our timetable and we were encouraged to reach out and meet up with anyone we wanted to hear from. We also had networking opportunities in the first couple of days for all the interns across GS to chat with each other and more opportunities later on in our own division.

    5/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • We had lunches with firm wide spring interns as well as with our buddies. We also had drinks during the first two days for all the interns and later another lunch with the business analysts within our own divisions. Once a week we had breakfast with one of the co-directors of GIR which was a fantastic opportunity to talk to somebody who had been with the firm for a considerable amount of time and really knew GS inside and out.

    5/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • We were allowed to use the gym and well-being facilities during our time at GS and were informed of the different activities, associations and networks that existed for employees. These ranged from divisional netball and tournaments to boxing classes, choir and the LGBT network. Employees were encouraged to balance their work and life outside of work.

    5/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • I think that it was a fantastic programme and gave a very interesting insight into the company, its work environment and culture. Much effort was made to give us a better understanding of what working at GS would be like and it was very well structured. Every session had a purpose and was highly detailed and all the employees made you feel welcome at the firm.
