    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I had a really super time and got such a variety of experiences on the rotation scheme (and even the induction week before it), including an away trip where I got put up in a very nice hotel!

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I was made to feel very valued by most of the teams I worked on and this was communicated very warmly by most of my colleagues.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was amazed by the incredible wealth of knowledge you have around you at Deloitte - it's like working in a living friendly encyclopedia! I was also amazed by how challenged I felt getting tested with challenging and new experiences, but at the same time felt so supported by my team and colleagues around me.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Pretty busy, but to a healthy extent most of the time. I normally had a fairly demanding but at the same time manageable schedule if you worked hard, which was great as it made it a really rewarding experience looking back on what you'd achieved each day. However, there was one week where I was worked off my feet and was late for an 8:30 pub quiz and missed a flight on Friday night because of my workload, but I think that was a one off and all my other weeks were great, and I heard mainly the same from the other interns.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was really pleased with the level of responsibility I was given and got to run meetings with clients on my own for some things. I thought I might be doing some shadowing but pretty much everything I did was real responsibility and it was great to be trusted with clients on my own.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • It was a really useful experience in terms of skills learned. You get put in at the deep end often but have a great support network around you so you learn very fast! I'm doing a masters this year and I feel my improvements in time efficiency, professional writing, Excel skills, people skills and presentation skills will greatly aid my degree, and will also be very useful in my future career.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • It was great - it was very professional, but at the same time also very friendly and family like, particularly when you worked away in teams in client offices (which was most of the time). Though we worked very hard, we had popcorn or sweets every afternoon in one team and fun and jokes in most teams too.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was super really - it was organized so well to give me a very varied experience of life at Deloitte. I was amazed by the investment they put into the induction week as well which not only prepared me well but also made you feel very valued.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I was amazed by how much investment was in the induction week as I said above, and they put you through a few tests during the programme to learn more. You get given a buddy and a boss-buddy (I've forgotten the proper name they have) but it gives you two people guaranteed of different levels and experience who are assigned to helping you with anything, though to be honest pretty much everyone invested a lot of time in trying to help you. Deloitte will also pay for your ACA training if you join the graduate scheme as well.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Sports and Social Club

    National Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Would highly recommend them. I read that Deloitte was voted no. 1 place to launch your career in Business Week magazine, and after spending the summer there I can see why.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Super, yeah - there was a good atmosphere in the office and we regularly had staff socials such as BBQs, open-top bus tours and evenings in the comedy club. However, it was healthy and though you felt valued and that they wanted you there you also didn't feel pressurized to go if you didn't want to. But they were all really good events.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Pretty expensive living around London! Fortunately I was able to stay at my dad's flat down there but it would have been expensive to rent somewhere, and even so I was spending the best part of £100 commuting every week from central London out to St. Albans. However Deloitte do pay you very well down there which makes it more manageable and pay for evenings out every week or two in my experience.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Very good being based around London - where better for quality nightlife in the UK?! Just very expensive generally

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes, I felt pretty tired at the end of work and had a lot of friends and family around London so I spent a lot of my free time with then, but I could have joined various sport teams, was invited to go bunting in Cambridge, and gone to the British Golf Open with colleagues and anything else that was on.
